One of my daughters friends mother become homeless a few years ago.
My daughter asked if she could stay at our house.
Of course she can!
The woman is on her feet now, married with a job, doing great.
Over the summer, I saw her again, as she was visiting my daughter.
I had forgotten she had stayed with us briefly, when she had no home.
She mentioned it and said she would never forget it.
I realized how in my life it was a small thing for me to extend a helping hand, but for her it was life-changing and altering.
What your son is doing is awesome.
I am glad he is getting alot of support.
Please read...this will warm your heart!

I needed that!!!! I was complaing about my job and the extra work they keep piling on me. At least I have a job and an income and with that comes a home, food, car +++ How easy I have it compared to others.
It's a wonderful thing that he is doing at such a young age & yes you should be proud of your grandson.
Thank you for sharing!

So, very cool, then this very fortunate and generous young man will get to meet with President Obama.

Most likely, although that is not guaranteed. In his own words..."This new President says he is for change...I want to see if he means it, and I have a lot to say."
David has been through a lot. My daughter finally got her divorce from David's father finalized after almost 8 years of trying. Which means that since he was 6 years old, his world has been tough. There were times my daughter had to take her family into hiding to protect herself and the kids. There is a warrant out for the arrest of her x. Not only has he not payed child support, but stole David's identity (used his social) and skipped out without payment to the tune of thousands... He (his dad) has been jailed and Baker Acted repeatedly, has been violent with numerous people, and has had numerous restraining orders issued against him because of it. Through all of the ups and downs around him, David has kept his grades up... and has aced every standardized test he has ever taken. His sister Aubrey is 4 years younger..and is following in closely his footsteps. My daughter has done an amazing job of keeping the home as stable and safe as possible through it all. It has not been easy.
David has a heart unlike I have ever seen. He is the real thing...always helping others. Recently there was a girl in his class who got sick and threw up in the hallway between classes. All the kids around her ran... except David. He told her to stay put, went and got towels and he cleaned up the mess. His teachers are constantly recounting things like this to my daughter.
He has earned his scholarship because of hard work and outstanding leadership. One of his teachers (who has taught both David and Aubrey) said to my daughter "Your kids are not just special kids...they are extraordinary kids".
Guess you can tell I'm proud of him, huh?

Will do, Loubelle,
Once he has the website up and running, I'll post a link here...or at the new site. It will probably be in January by the time it's up and running.

Just updating... David has been mapping out his route, and has a number of people who will be joining him for at least part of his trip. He has been training, and will do a 4 day dry run walk in a month or so. Already there is interest in his story by a local tv station....
David is below... 4th from left...at the ceremony where he received his scholarship...

You better get him some serious supplies of tennis shoes!...Or some good walking boots
That is a very very long walk...I take it he will be taking breaks...do they estimate how long it will take?
At first I thought he was going right away..then I saw after school is out..the weather will be better by then..
I too would be busting my buttons...all I can do lately is complain about my grandkids.. (only 2 out of 6 1/2 ) ...so far the rest are doing OK...
They are 17 and 18 and getting way too obnoxious...they need to be brought down a peg or two..a long walk would do them some good..make them appreciate what they have...Snoozy..who is proud of YOUR grandkids...for now at least..

Just an update:
David was contacted by the Coalition of the Homeless. He'll be meeting with them next month, and they want to be part of this.
