Any of you here run??

    Any of you ex-dubs run? where do you run? trails? roads? How many miles a week? What is your favorite way to train for a race?

    I have been a runner off and on. I have done a bunch of half marathons and one full marathon.

    I want to train for an 8-mile trail run this February. I am sticking with it (which is hard for me...) so far!

    Building up for a half-marathon in April.

    My huge goal is to run the Western States 100 in a few years. The cool thing about the Western states 100 is that all the female finishers (and to just finish that race is what you're actually trying for) are in their late 30s or 40s. I'm 32. Somehow, for women, we seem to excel at these long races in our late 30s through our 40s. I think that is really cool.

    I used to love running. Had to take a break, but have now started again. I'm up to 30 minutes of slow jogging - fast walkers can keep up with me

    I love wooded areas and hidden paths - I can breathe as hard as I want then - lol

    Yes.

    I've been interval and fartlek training now for a while. It seems strange to be sprinting again, especially at my age.

    It's taken me a long time to realize with training that more is not good; less is. I always overtrained, and went through down times. Now I train less, and am far more fit. I run every other day, and only run for about 45 minutes including warm up and cool down; unless I'm interval training.

    I do lots of stretching. It's critical, as I've been told and felt from injuries. If you're not stretching, you're going to get injuries, guaranteed, so I've been told.

    Good for you for training for that marathon! 32 is nothing; I'm in my 40's and am much fitter than most teenagers. Or at least I like to think so.

    I used to but since I moved to florida it's hard. It's flat, it's boring, it sucks... In rural NY running was fun and challenging but here? Nah...

    and shamus, ...you really shouldn't have said "fartlek" in front of this group of 5th graders.

    My schedule now is running 5 days, bike riding (for cross-training) one day and one day of rest (just like Jehovah). I do a long run on Saturdays and do speed training once a week (track work). The rest of my running is 3 - 5 miles. I'll change this after the 8-mi race.

    I KNOW I totally have to stretch more... I just don't want to when I get home... I will though. and more warm up/cool down with my speed work.

    Used to. I am going to start working it back into my schedule. I'd like to run a few races late next year.

    I ran most of my life from high school to 50 years old.

    When I hit 50 my back was hurting and I went to the doctor and he showed me my ex-rays, I had worn out my lower vertabre from running. It became a compact fuse of bone on bone.

    That was a shock to me because the bible said I was wonderfully made, and the JW's told me I wouldnt wear out.

    I remember a chiropractor telling me when I was in my 30's that I would ruin my back running. I blew him off because he was fat and out of shape. And I was thin and I knew why..

    I used to run 35 miles a week 5 days of 7 miles runs.

    I was like Forest Gump running all the time, everywhere.

    I think I ran to deal with the stress of being a JW than the stress of being an EX JW.

    Thats why I think I still go to the gym everyday.

    I have a trail, the Pinellas trail 1 mile from my house, an old railroad line through orange groves.

    I wore my back out even though I always wore good shoes and bought extra cushions in them and I tried to run in the grass as much as possible.

    When I stopped running my weight went from 175 to 200 even though I go to the gym 5 days a week for an hour a day.
