how about change this entire system of belief. you need not believe in anything. you should no based on observation facts and scientific method. but unfortunately no one seems to ahve these skills anymore. relying on opinion and belief is like relying on faith... mind control people, thats where that leads. i dont think any of you would like to swap one form for another, but thats what you would be doing

You think man is not an animal? Upon what do you base that conclusion?

    No I wouldn't.

Each must find their own way in this world & if they can't - so be it.

No. Because if you are truly going to defend freedom of speech, freedom of religion, et al, you will have to occasionally defend things that you personally find despicable. So although I find it despicable that some people worship a god that they believe will kill 6 billion people "very soon now," I recognize that the same freedom that allows them freedom of worship, also allows me the freedom to believe in my concept of "sensible, testable things."

But that's a cirucular argument. Stated another way, should there be freedom of religion? Should we be allowed to practice any hair brained, idiotic, ridiulous notions that we have as long as we lable it "religious" and have some big fairy involved in it?

Yes Jonathan, yes. Don't mind me. I'm having some wine again. Gracie is shunning me right now too.. A demonstartaion of unconditional christian love and the ability to shun as witnesses do, but....

But, I have often wondered what God as an entity would do if the entire world woke up tommorow, and in unision, said " We don't want want you! We don't beleive your ways or ideas are good for anyone.!"

What would become of God. Would he get embarrassed and say " Ok, I'll just be leaving now, sorry for being a jerk, and then the clouds turn a pinkish hue of red, signifying his rejection and embarassment.

I mean what would he do! Get angry and kill everyone, like a pissed off child who doesn't get his way\?

Would he talk it out and start a dialogue with people, who have an IQ over 50. The whole premise is silly and manmade.

I'm afraid I still believe that humans are different from the animal world, in general. No scientist here, obviously.

Ban religion. You mean ban fairy tales. Sure. But i'd offer alternatives to the delinquent parent sydrome. As a race of beings that can collectively create a better world through intelligence and reality, the elimination of pain, would be one of my first priorities.

Part of the disease problem, with religion is because its not based on any form of reality, there are no tools to work with in the real world.

The advancement of our objectives as a species are being hindered because of this.

Religion does a lot of good in this world. If you took the philanthropy that they do away, tonight, many in the world would end up homeless, hungry, without medical care, with no parents and many, many other things. Like it or not, religion doesn't just have a negative impact. They do much good. And many religious people are universalists. You guys hear the bad, sensationalistic things about religion. It's not all bad, by any stretch. I have a problem with fundamentalist thinking that is so strict that it causes heartlessness and violence. But religion that is based on encouraging the good in you to grow and to benefit others? I am for it.

You're presuming a direct link with philanthorpy and religion. I would question that link. Do you really think people do good because their reclusive and invisible sky daddy tells them to, or because they want to live in a better world and don't like to see suffering?
