Oompa, you know how to Google as well as the next guy. There are far too many times to collect all of them here unless you specify a time frame, if you go back to the beginning to now.... I don't know if a site like this could handle all of them, could it? Order some of the books from Randy's site at freeminds and you will see how many times it was hinted at.

Carla, I do not really think there are that many are there? We all know 1914, some say 1925 but I have never seen it in a WT. I have heard 1928 and most know of strong hints at 1975, so that is only four. But now that you mention Google...I will see if this info is on jwfacts.com.........oompa

There was a Watchtower on the 6,000 years adam and eve creative days which said around around 1959 that 6,000 years end's in 1974! But this was later in the late 1960's adjusted to 1975....in Ray Franz book they say Franz considered adjusting again to 1976 but Knorr told him to knock it off!

I haven't looked at all my books in awhile but I remember thinking if I could just underline (jw way) all the time they hinted or outright said the end was near since 1873, surely my jw would see they were false prophets! well, the books became so underlined they no longer stood out to make my point. I guess you may have to define what you consider a 'hint' or actual prophecy to narrow your search. Then you also must define 'the end' my jw says all non jw's and ex jw's are liars because the jw's do not say the world will end. Ok, so can we say the 'end' or armageddon will mean the 'end' as we know life today? aaaagh! turns into an hour long discussion on how to define 'the end' before you can even have the discussion about the end dates!

Even if you find all the dates (have lots of reams of paper) and you show a jw and they will even look at it, they simply dismiss it as old light, imperfect men, etc.... and attempt to turn the conversation to all the 'other' religions and what they may have said in history. All those 'other' religions are not the point of discussion and at the moment are not making my life a hell and that of my family so no need to bring them into this discussion. They do not require absolute loyalty to their 'organization' even going so far as to offer their very lives upon the bloody altar that the gb requires.

The original version of an 89 WT said the preaching work would be done by the end of the 20th century. Of course, that's to be followed by THE END, right? But they changed the wording of it in the bound volume. So an original copy of that WT would be like gold to me.

The generation of 1914 was to see the end. How long is a generation? Our years are 70 or 80 says the Bible. So that would put the end at 1994. But they've changed the meaning of "generation" twice since then. I wish they would change the meaning of "faithful and discreet slave".

some say 1925 but I have never seen it in a WT.

A good way to remember the story with 1925 is remembering the 1921 publication entitled, "Millions Now Living Will Never Die". We now know for absolute certain, that the title of this book was a big fat lie. Moreover, this book says that the world will end in 1925.

The next time a JW tells you that the end is "just around the corner", please remind them that Brother Rutherford told this same thing to the children in 1921. Imagine how old the remaining children are, that heard him say this.

"Will you please define 'just around the corner' my brother?"

There was a book called "Children" in the 40s that, ironically enough, encouraged NOT having children cuz the end was so close.
