Thanks Blondie...that shows the WT stand on gambling that I remembered.

So much for a Bible based answer to a question...

The first line is all you need, "God's Word does not discuss gambling in detail..." after that anything said is an interpretation of other scriptures not related to gambling.

If you really wanted to give a Bible based answer it should be:

"God's Word does not discuss gambling in detail, therefore it would not be prudent for the publishers of this magazine to impose its feelings on the matter. It would be up to each individual Christian's conscience as to whether they see anything wrong with betting or gambling in small amounts. The Christian congregation elders would not get involved unless gambling became a matter of greed or caused one to not provide for his family. Let each one carry his own load.

HB, then it would have to be in a 2008 WT because this is the most comprehensive information on the CD.

My point exactly, the magazines reason for a ban on gambling is because it is "greedy, egotistical, selfish." What about brothers that work 70 hours a week and make $5,000 can the same principle apply?

I love it. I talked Daryl Kunde into going into the Petoskey casino in Michigan. He dropped 5$ in the slot machine. I knew that it was a DFing offence, and loved that when they are interested you can talke a dubber into doing many things, after you get them alone away from other dubbers. Its all a dog and pony show. I used to make a big deal out of voteing in front of him before we would go to work on election day. He only got up set when I made waves and questioned the authority of the society outright. That did not make him look good working partners with an apostate.

If I play a board game and I keep score I may cause harm to myself and my family?

I know it's been mentioned before, but my buying and selling of stocks can be considered gambling. Ugh, these people just can't live a life without weird restricting blanket rules

No one has commented on your other point, ie, that those who work extra hard for $$$$, specially overtime, when they are already living comfortably, should be disfellowshipped. Hehe..I never thought of that before. I know many brothers like this!

i just read the articles that the WT had posted on its site, and while they are terrible slanted towards the "dont do it side" reading if from the point of view that i like gambling, i think it does not come out and STRICTLY FORBID it. i remember a set of artcles in the awake a few years ago that had little or no bible based info to discourage gambling, but did hammer the addictive aspects of gambling and the worst case senarios that could happen if you went crazy with your money.. they always use the "should be avoided" phrase, see my other post ( http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/168959/1.ashx )or "wise or mature christians should take this view" statements to lead you to an answer. GREED is the DFing offense, and i dont see how a reasonable amount of gambling could be called GREED. or a pattern of greed.

A nunber of witnesses feel this way and think its improper to invest directly in the markets but think its ok through your 401k or an IRA.
