Witnesses Who Talk To The Dead

Did you ever see a Witness talk to the dead? When "prominent" JWs pass away (and they don't have the heavenly hope) it is not uncommon to speak publicly about them as if they were still there, able to hear them.

A very prominent elder who was used by the Society as a fill in CO amongst other things, died and the District Overseer gave his funeral talk which actually was a eulogy! He said, while raising his eyes to the heavens, "Jim, we'll miss you!".

From a Jehovah's Witness perspective, that's very wrong. Isn't it???

I had a feeling this thread would bomb.

    C'mon, help me out, willya?

I have never witnessed a witness talking to the dead, but seems I remember an Awake or WT article about it.

That it was ok to write notes to the dead, oh I am sure I have that wrong.

Seems most witnesses forget the dead quickly, thinking they are asleep awaiting the resurrection, feeling guilty for even mourning the loss of a loved one.

No minimus, JWs do not talk to the dead. Let's try to be more mature than this shall we? I think it is clear that this was merely a rehtorical statement, with the understanding that no "channeling" was intended. You and I both know that JWs do not believe in speaking to the dead. Let's devote thread space to more sober-minded topics than this six-screens-style nonsense.

Well, min, I never heard anyone say something like this. I heard them say that the anointed in heaven since 1918 were already ruling with Christ and were watching us but no one individual.

Not that there weren't eccentric acting jws...............just not that.

The thing that blew my mind was saying that in the new system we would know all the individual names of each of the 144,000 knowing evidently who had been "genuine."

87:5, 6. Will those who receive life in the earthly Paradise ever know the names of those resurrected to heavenly life? These verses indicate that this is a likely possibility.

We never even went to the cemetary because it was considered worshipping the dead. They didn't want people to start talking to their relatives. I guess they want to you shun the dead.

The only time I've heard anything along those lines was when people were discussing a professed member of the anointed who had died.

When this occurred, many of the "friends" were perplexed by it. It actually got a lot of circulation. It's not the first time I've heard someone talking to the dead "rhetorically". And anytime I heard it, I was confused. They were talking as if he was still there. Maybe they felt he was in Jehovah's mind.

Can't say I have ever witnessed that! Though most witnesses wear black at funerals. Found that odd, and why bother crying if you believe the resurrection?
