I had heard that, of the 5 weekly meetings, the Book Study had been the least well attended. Had anyone else heard this?I read that somewhere too but I think that is a lie........ In my area (and most of my circuit) it was the TMS/SM that was least populated. People were feeling 'depressed' but still attended the shorter BS. If you missed an announcement on
Last bookstudy group this week I think there will be great sadness in the

One thing about life, there is always going to be change.
And what someone told you a year or two ago they are going to deny or not remember a few years latter.
If you live long enough, you will find that happening over and over.
I know a lot of witnesses from the 70's.
I cant immagine their thought process other than fuxkd up.
They must only have 2 week memories.
Which is pretty much like your average American.
Maybe thats one thing about me that enabled me to awake early on.
I remember from a child people would tell me one thing and then a short time latter they would change.
This kept happening over and over. I thought I was going crazy 10- 12 years old.
When I got in my teens I started keeping a journal, something they taught me in school.
I started writing everything down, events of the day, promises and enticements.
People dont like you writing down and keeping track of what they say. Because pretty soon you have a record of how full of shxt they are.
I remember one time in the 80's, I told my boss he wasnt paying me enough money and I was going to leave.
I was a very good worker and my superintendant and boss, company owner took me in their office and were blowing smoke up my rear end making all kinds of promises and making me feel warm and wanted.
It was all very nice until I told them I would like to have this all in writing.
Then they said the meeting was over.

I told my dfd son about this ending of home bookstudies...and he loudly lamented how that was always his very favorite meeting...as a kid our house was always a bookstudy location...and whether sat.morning, or tuesday even we always had snacks frivolity afterwards......I have not been to one it two years but my wifes bookstudy is having a dinnerparty next weekend as a kind of farewell party....(i think they are actually celebrating it's demise and will so enjoy the time off)............oompa
btw...down south most churches have two meetings a week...Sunday, and Wed. night prayer meeting....so just like the JW move to accept more and more blood thingys.......this is an attempt to become more like Christendom?..lol

Some of them are going to dinner together on Christmas Eve to commemorate the end of the book study. Am I the only one who finds this strange?
Sounds like just another way to celebrate Christmas, while not directly celebrating it. I feel so stumbled! -

Getting together for pleasant occasions is a hallmark of good mental health and I'm pleased about the idea of having dinner afterwards. Its closeness to Christmas has not gone unnoticed and is a weirdly happy coincidence. Who knows, the idea might catch on. Many JWs could do with having more pleasant activities to look forward to.

Eye,
The subject of nostalgia with JWs is sad and funny at the same time. I remember my aunts and uncles and G parents talking about pioneering in the late 1930's. Trading literature for a chicken, etc. The sad part is that they were motivated to living that way because the Judge had them expecting the big A as soon as....tomorrow?
The last book study at a private home will be remembered fondly and with pride 40 years from now as a warm memory of the old days. But of course in 2048 they will be sure sure that the big A could start....tomorrow?

I know some local dubs who held a farewell party after their group last Thursday, the last one being on Christmas day and few will be expected to it.
Uh, excuse me, BluesBrother, but on Christmas Day even more of them will be off work and able to attend. What excuse did they give for expecting the BS to be less attended on Christmas Day? That seems like HUGE hypocrisy to me.

So you think this is a pleasant occasion for them? If it is, their cognitive dissonance is wearing thin. They should be grieving, according to their own beliefs.
I am not happy when I hear they're softening up. The more normal the rules, the more complacent they will be about leaving.
In my case, btw, the dubs are disrupting my holiday *again* by choosing their friends over their family *again*. -
Doubting Bro
Many I've spoken with would have rather had the TMS/SM canceled and retained the CBS. As mention, its the only meeting many felt comfortable in and the social interaction afterwards helped build community. I hosted one for many years and goodie night was always well attended. My wife is sad that its coming to an end. When you think of it, the house meeting goes all the way back to the beginning of the religion. It's a major change.

Even further back...centuries, in fact. The house groups mentioned in the book of Acts, for example. So much for JWs proudly declaring that their faith replicates 1st century Christianity!
