    restrangled...

last year was the first time I participated......and my first xmas post-JW.....(I got a real nice gift from my SS that was much appreciated... and a nice friendship of the person I was assigned to send a gift....even if they do call me a smartass periodically.......lol . )

I have no idea if my recipient has picked up their package or not. I know it has been delivered...but since their address, like mine, is a PO box, maybe they havent been to the post office since it got there yesterday. I dont worry about it until after xmas..I just hope it made it in one piece (though the amount of bubble wrap should protect it from all but the Samsonite gorilla)

...I know folks are busy this time of year...

(oh..if someone sent me something.... I havent been to the post office today...too much ice and rain...stayed inside all day....so I have no idea if its there or not...I will go tomorrow to check)

    merry christmas everyone...

I used to organize a workplace Secret Santa ornament exchange for about 4 years. For the last 3 out of the 4 years, whoever drew my name never bothered with the exchange part, only the "getting" part. The same thing happened the last time I participated in JWD's Secret Santa. So now, I just can't be bothered. Reindeer games and all that.

    Reindeer games and all that

"Reindeer games".... I say that too.... 8 Christmases working retail back in the late 80s/early 90s made me a very cynical person for a long time (without adding the JW element to it)

I dont understand .....why folks who sign up dont get the exchange part of this.... too bad it burned you out for this year... .

Yes, well, whose fault is that, do you suppose?

I don't do the Secret Santa thing, just never have gotten into the xmas spirit enough to do all that...

But I did have an experience with a workmate that proves that a nice "thank you" is a special thing.

One nice lady at work always gives me a nice xmas gift every year...and every year I've never reciprocated. I always apologize that I didn't get her anything, I just don't get into xmas too much. She's says it's okay, she likes to give gifts. I always thank her profusely and then feel bad that I didn't get her anything.

Well, this year she did it again and again I didn't have anything for her. I felt bad that she always give me something but I don't return the favor. I decided to do something this year but didn't have time to buy anything, so I made a CD of my favorite xmas tunes and gave it to her. It was easy and free, but seeing her face light up and her being so appreciative of my simple gift made my day.

So ya'll say thank you when you get your gifts..it can make someone's day.

I got this from my person I was very pleased that she was pleased.
    Dear Grace,

Thank-you so much for the lovely present that arrived in the post for me this morning. It was quite funny that it arrived today as my "in" mother was here visiting my young son for the day. I daren't tell her the package was a Christmas present from an ex-jw I met on an apostate website! I'm sure she would have melted on the spot if I told her that! LOL

I really love the gifts, especially the black rose set but they are all lovely and will definately be worn. I'll just have to drop a few hints to my husband to bring me out somewhere nice to have an excuse to wear them!

Thanks once again for my first xmas pressie in over 20 years!

I got a sweet reply too. She said she really liked it and it has been very useful so far. I still haven't opened mine but I sent a note saying thank you and that I would send another note after I opened it. I've always been so happy with my secret santa gifts.

One year I didn't get a reply from the recipient, though. I really is nice to get that.

I know exactly what you mean. For the past several years I sent gifts to my husband's older children and their families without an email, phone call or anything to even let me know the gifts had arrived. Well, this year, now that things are tight, guess who got cut from the Christmas list? The first time I participated in the gift exchange with my husband's family, there was no gift for me. The second time, I received a very nice gift from one of the decent relatives, and the third time it was a cook book that you got for free for subscribing to a magazine. I gave up after that and stopped participating. It's not worth the hurt feelings. There are so many other things to focus on at Christmastime. Now I have two grandkids with two more on the way. I'm having a BLAST!

Restrangled, sorry but I'm NOT your Secret Santa. I did send out my gift last week, though. Hope it gets there on time!

However, I would say that I stuck to the price set to the penny. Our limit was $15 and I spent $14.95 plus tax. Shipping was extra. When I used to do gift exchanges at work, we'd always have a price cap and somebody who could afford it would always go way out and that meant one person got an extravagant gift while everybody else didn't. It always made everyone else feel bad. Plus, I'd hate to receive a $50 gift when I "only" sent out a $15 gift, even though the $15 is what was agreed to.

I do agree with you that good manners says to at least acknowledge you've received the gift, if you're in a position to do so. Even if you don't open it until Christmas.
