I have just been watching the Carols and Readings from Kings College Cambridge,England, Bloody Marvellous!

A couple of times they have referred to the visit of the Wise Men, I wonder what you guys make of this,it always seemed to me a strange thing to be in Scripture, the visit of some devout presumably Zoroastrian seers. The WT take on this is that "Satan used them to try to bring about the death of Jesus". As with most WT exegesis, WHAAAAT?

So I wonder if the wise and inciteful on JWD can tell me,how did they get guided there,Why??? and why is it recorded for us?

Thanks and Merry Christmas, and catch this broadcast if you can from the BBC,I believe your Public TV in USof A shows it too.

    Love

Wobbly....Do you know where the Wise Men hang out? Not a joke. The astrologers were always positioned in the WATCHTOWERS. That was the main reason they were built. Sure you could see the countryside from the highest point and thus be prepared for defense, but on a daily basis and a more practical note, the Watch Towers were for the star gazers and those who read prophecies in the sky.

I'm neither particularly wise nor insightful, but I believe those men from the East were sent by the Father to alert King Herod that Herod's days were numbered, that a new King was destined to rule over Jerusalem. Note that the star led them to Jerusalem first. The scholars at Jerusalem had to point out to Herod that the King of the Jews was to be born in Bethlehem.

The men from the East found Jesus, who by then must have been a toddler, in a house in Bethlehem. They bowed down and worshiped Him and gave him costly gifts. Herod should and could have done the same, but he chose to act in a cruel manner by having the little Bethlehemite boys aged two and under slaughtered. He thereby showed that he was unfit to rule over anybody.

The gifts that the men gave Jesus would have made it possible for the family to get to Egypt and live there until Herod died. This tells me that the Father is in complete control, that He can direct the hearts of any He chooses, and that He can thwart the intents of the powerful.

I've come to these conclusions after studying, researching, and meditating on the Holy Scriptures.

    Thank you.

WT almost portrays them poorly...but I think WT must be saying they were being USED by Satan...and must not have known it? Why else would they give him gifts and worship him?..........stupid stupid cult.......oompa

Wise men used by Satan? I suppose next thing they are going to commit a little blasphemy and claim that Satan created the star leading the way.

Up is down, black is white, good is evil, and God is Satan, that is what Watchtower doctrine looks like to people on the outside who have not sat through hundreds of meetings dining on the spiritual banquet.

    Wise men used by Satan?

I have heard some christian teachings that promote that view also. I think it is a recent doctrine change...maybe over the past 15 years.

Because the wise men were astrologers...that's why they knew about the star. And "astrology" is forbidden by OT.

I'm going with it was some sort of apparition created by satan .It wasn't a stationary star ,it moved in front of them ,going to herod first in an effort to kill the youngster jesus ,it did all happen to fullfill the old testament prophesy that there would be a great wailing in Israel and that Jesus would have to be called out of egypt where they went to hide . One would have to ask if herod was stupid for trusting the astrologers to return but I couldn't see God being responsible for the death of all the babies .

That's the way I see it too. So, it seems, that this "apparition" (called a "star") was an object that Satan himself caused to appear in the sky. Any thoughts on that?

I thought they already said the star had been sent by satan?

I love the fact that they make a lot of the fact that satan is an anagram for santa
