The drug caffeine can affect mind and body.
Being in a high control cult can also affect your mind and body.
most JWs I know could not live without the coffee break in the middle of the morning whilst counting their time
:Consequently, let each individual act in accord with his own resolve without feeling that his decision needs to be imposed on others.
Note to alert readers: this statement was approved by the Governing Body, who as it should be noted are a group comprised of "each individual.." who should "act in accord with his own resolve without feeling that his decision needs to be imposed on others."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

That was back in 1990, and so far I have heard nothing to rebut the claim that coffee is acceptable to the witlesses. However, that doesn't mean that the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger won't yet decide that it is no longer acceptable. All it takes is for Ted Jaracz to develop a disliking for coffee, and it will be unacceptable within a year.
I don't think they would ever ban coffee because it would be to similar to Mormons. My jw was really frustrated that the 'doors' would get them confused with Mormons and the ban on coffee thing. Thinking back it was almost comical listening to his rant that he couldn't believe jw's could ever be confused with Mormons. (yeah, ok, so he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer sometimes)
There is overwhelming scientific proof that tobacco cannot be safely consumed in any amount at all.
This is not true of alcohol or caffeine.
Rebel, I think there was some study done that showed smokers were less likely to develop Parkinsons disease, though it could be because they died before it set in. It was quite awhile ago that I saw that so I have no more info on it.
There has been some data showing some benefits to tobacco, but that does not negate the risks.
There is scientific consensus about the fact that small amounts of exposure causes immediate adverse cardiovascular effects, etc.

The dubs are on the right track, health-wise, in which sorts of substances they ban. I'd be surprised if the policy decision was truly made on the basis of science though--it's probably just an accident--although they give it lip service. None of their policies are made because of scientific proof, never have been, that I'm aware of.
Rebel, there is scientific data showing that smoking is harmful, but how can you say that there is nothing to show aschaol is bad or coffee?
I no longer smoke, but I can tell you that my kids growing up lost more friends to drinking and driving, I have yet to lose a friend from smoking and most of my friends smoked all their lives.
I know of some friends that had a horrible home life due to an alcaholic family memeber
I know of house fires because of a drunk person falling asleep after putting something to cook on the stove.
I have read that alcahol kills brain cells and one doesn't grow new brain cells
I know of people that had a few drinks and had marital affairs or one night stand and caused families to break up
I know of families where a drunk father would come home and beat his wife and kids
I know of a drunk father that use to drive with his kids in the car
Coffe too can be addictive and a hard habit to break for people with heart conditions and those with high blood pressure
An addiction from coffee can cause one to have withdrawal symptoms causing sivere head aches
drink enough coffee and you can get the jitters and become hyper
Also, something none of us have control over is all the poison's added to our food supply
Cow and chickens are pumped up with hormones to make them bigger, pumped full of antibotics because they are raised in such dirty conditions
pharmaldihide (excuse sp.) is in our milk
The Chinese are now adding a poison to the baby formula, coffee creamer and who know's what ever else.
How about pesticides, a small child almost died from accidently eating a sticker on a tomatoe that had pesticides on it.
Now we are finding out too, that our pharmacucidals or perscription drugs may have poison in them ( in fact a lot of perscriptions are poison) read the side affects.
What about air pollution?
There are people that have died from lung cancer that have never smoked, hmmm, how does one explain that, oh yeah, second hand smoke, it couldn't possibly be caused from any other pollution out there.
I no longer smoke, but I still get upset with everyone trying to blame every ill in the world on smoking
