Welllll... since I worked and lived in Burnet, TX for a while, I know that the pronunciation is...
Burn-it
The joke I was told about how it got it's name... god was creating all of Texas... and the beauty and grandeur of the state... afterwards, there was a lot left over... one of the angels helping out asked him, "What do we do with all of this?"
To which god replied, "Just put it over there, and 'burn it'."
Which is how Burnet came to be.
(Or something like that... I am not too good at telling jokes...)
Perhaps I should ask you how that you pronounce 'Tow' - which is near Burnet?

Very good! (except the town south of Burnet insist it was the local tribe called Bulldogs that failed to burn the pile of rubbish, favoring instead to make it a town)
My sincere condolences for your having to live in Burnet.
Tow .....rhymes with wow, cow and how.!
Well... when I lived in Burnet (back in 1977) - it was a really small town. They rolled up the sidewalks on town square around 5pm. Fer a youngster like myself - that was too early.
Marble Falls wasn't much better. The only place that stayed open late was the local Mr. Gatti's - and that was only to around 10pm.
Nowadays - when I drive through that part of the state... I am amazed at the growth there. Lots more businesses - lots more people.
One of my favorite drives was up 281 - about half-way between Marble Falls and Burnet - State Park Road 4. If you haven't - you need to - take a drive down it someday. From the 281 side. Take it at around 65 to 70mph. It's fun.

Jim TX
