I still get copies of all the KMs and mags - just for a giggle really. Oh and to look out for noo light of course!

I was browsing thru the March 15 2009 yesterday and came across something that was noo to me. The WT study article on page 15-19 is entitled "Be Vigilant". Its basically more last days doom and gloom do-more-or-you'll-die crap but a sentence in par 4 caught my eye. I'll quote the whole paragraph to put it in perspective...

"People in general are under Satan's domination, and they have not been watchful as to the meaning of world events. They do not discern Christ's presence in Kingdom power. But Christ's true followers have been vigilant and have discerned the real meaning of what has happened in the past century. Since 1925, Jehovah's Witnesses have recognized that World War I and the events that followed amount to sure evidence that Christ's presence in heavenly Kingdom power began in 1914. Thus the last days of this wicked system of things under Satan had started."

This surprised me a lot as it is in stark contrast to their previous declarations of prophecy which, by definition, means foretelling the events prior to occuring, not 11 years after the fact!

    Quote:

    *** w81 2/15 p. 10 Insight on the News ***

Yet, decades before that year arrived, dedicated students of Bible prophecy were able to identify 1914 as a climactic turning point.

    Quote:

    *** w98 9/15 p. 15 par. 1 Waiting in “Eager Expectation” ***

Similarly, a prophecy providentially caused sincere 19th-century Bible students to be in expectation. By linking the “seven times” of Daniel 4:25 with “the times of the Gentiles,” they anticipated that Christ would receive Kingdom power in 1914.

    Quote:

    *** kc chap. 14 p. 137 par. 27 The King Reigns! ***

Counting from October 607 B.C.E., the “seven times” of 2,520 years bring us down to early October 1914 C.E., when, as we have already seen, Jesus’ great prophecy on “the conclusion of the system of things” started to be fulfilled. Reliable information in God’s Word is the basis for this conclusion, which the Watchtower magazine has been championing now for more than 100 years.

    Thoughts anyone?

Wow, that's a good catch! I wonder if there is an apostate up in a lofty part of the tower finally revealing the truth?

Looks like enough people asked them why the WTS kept saying that they predicted 1914.

1914 was NOT a prediction. It was invented in 1925.

Once again the Internet has them by the sack.

I recall reading a Golden Age from 1925 (PDF) that stated that the last days had begun in 1899. Did they revise that teaching later in 1925? The prediction for 1914 prior to that year was not the start of the "last days" but for the End.

Of course, they can be vigilant to 2100 and beyond claiming one "turning point" after another, but "God's Kingdom" won't come.

I had that thought but then isn't that a bit pointless? I mean, 1914 is wrong coz of 607 being wrong and a quick google or a look on the British History Museum's website would prove that.

But it would be fun to think that there's an apostate writing the material again. Hopefully there'll be more "corrections" in future issues.

Yes I saw that too! I kept meaning to start a thread but never got around to it. At last, a little bit of honesty. Will it continue? Hmm.

There is no doubt that 1914 is all wet. However, JW's have been so disingenuous about the buildup to 1914. This is a little more accurate. It would have been more accurate to say that in 1925, they had another failed prophecy and the Judge switched up again, back to 1914.
