Quiet "persecution" on the KH street?

Do you notice at the nearby KH, that many of the residents near the Hall display unusually large flags or crosses on the lawn or other such icons that appear to be directly and purposely to register disgust at having a KH in their neighborhood?

What sort of deliberate decoration have you noticed?

Well, I know a Kingdom Hall that is exactly across the street from a huge Catholic Church.

Where I live I know of about 5 KH that are just "tucked away" into residential neighborhoods. Not near any businesses or other churches. Just taking up 2 lots between peoples homes.

I guess I thought that was the way it is in most places.

The KH's here in san Diego are the same way, tucked away out of sight. The one I used to go to is at the end of a obscure little road completly out of site. Other's are also tucked away, you wouldn't know they are there unles you are told. In fact one little city here in town (Imperial Beach if anyone knows where that is) there is a hall there, somewhere. It's a little beach town, the whole town is in walking distance. I lived there growing up and to this day I could tell you where the KH is. Seems strange that they would try to build halls out of site....if you had the truth and wanted people to know it why would you make yourself unaccessable?

I've never seen any unusual 'stuff' around a Kingdom Hall. Almost all the KH's that I've ever been to or seen, have been in out of the way places and/or designed and landscaped well into the area so they don't look out of place and just look like a business hall. sammieswife.

The Kingdom Halls in my area are all visible from the road. The Hall that I attended had a house directly across the street. This house always had the biggest Christmas display of the whole street. Perhaps it was done because of its location to the Hall. Perhaps not

The Kingdom Hall is also not listed in the phone book. Not even in Yellow pages. I do not see it under 'churches' or 'organizations, fraternities, etc.'

Do they list anything at all, maybe under some other heading?

    Why are they so secretive?

It seems like although it is "public', it is rather by invitation only.

What I notice most is that most everyday people don't know much about or really care much about the JW's. What little they know is that they are a strange little religion that doesn't celebrate holidays.

You can't be persecuted if people really don't care much about you.

The KH I went to when I was a kid was hidden away at the end of a very narrow Dead End street. You were lucky if you could get two cars to pass in opposite directions without one having to stop and wait on the side of the road as the other passed.

The parking lot was not large enough so quite a few people would park their cars on the street in front of peoples' houses. The would effectively shut down the road for anyone living in the neighborhood.

The elders were constantly being persecuted getting complaints from the neighbors, but always ignored them. (How DARE those evil worldly people try to interfere with gawd's work??? )

One day the guy who lived across the street setup a parking meter.

A bunch of the JWs just stood there staring at it. <--- "WTF?"

In the end the guy gave up after the JWs started parking there without putting any money in the meter.

Look under "kingdom hall" or "jehovah's witnesses" on places such as Infospace. I just checked the yellow pages in my city and it is listed under "churches--Jehovah's Witnesses" as well under the White-Business pages under "Jehovah's Witnesses." Now this is the US.

How should the listing for Jehovah’s Witnesses appear in a local telephone directory?
It has been noted that there is great variety in the way that listings for Jehovah’s Witnesses appear in telephone directories around the country. Some are rather confusing, and others do not provide sufficient information. If the congregation has a telephone in the Kingdom Hall, it is important to have an informative listing in the telephone book, making it possible for interested ones and our brothers to make contact with the local congregation.

The following is the recommended listing: Jehovah’s Witnesses, (City), (State), followed by the Kingdom Hall address and phone number.

In cities having more than one congregation, we recommend the following: Jehovah’s Witnesses, (City), (State), followed by an alphabetic listing giving the name, Kingdom Hall address, and phone number of the congregations.
It can be determined locally whether to provide an alternate phone number. If you share a Kingdom Hall with another congregation located in a different city that is not covered by the local telephone book, the name of that city should also be shown along with the Kingdom Hall address and phone number.
