:Is Having Children a Purely Selfish Act?

Of course. Virtually everything humans do at every moment is a purely selfish act. There is nothing wrong with that, when only good is done by it.

Having children is not "purely" selfish.

Yes it is. I have four and they are all great. One is a Doctor. They cost me a fortune to raise and they have given me immense blessings. They also gave me the normal grief kids give parents.

I had them because I loved their mother and wanted to have them, to raise them, to love them, to teach them. And yes, that was "purely" selfish.

"Selfish" has been given a bad rep. , min. I didn't do it for "them", because when they were conceived, there was no "them" to relate to, no "them" to be altruistic about.

People will always act in their own self-interests. Always. Even when it seems that they don't, they do. That is NOT always a bad thing. It is just the way it is.

Sorry I don't know how that happened...

Don't worry, it's called unintentional reproduction.

As for your take on having children, you are indulging in a little demagoguery. People who exist in near starvation conditions, generation after generation, reproduce much more than better fed people in western countries do. Any farmer can tell you that plants that are stressed by lack of good soil and water go to seed quicker than well fed plants. To put human reproduction into some kind of moral equasion is typical of todays so called enlighted class who think they are smart enough to take over for the natural order and do a better job of engineering life on earth. Hitler dabbled in this cruel hobby.

If people will always act in their own self interests, being selfish, then Christ must've been the most selfish person ever!

    Min,

:If people will always act in their own self interests, being selfish, then Christ must've been the most selfish person ever!

Not really. As I said, being selfish is merely acting in one's own best interest. It was in his own best interest for Christ to please God, and God wanted him to get killed. Or else. One cannot say that it would have been in Christ's own best interest to piss off a God known for his bad temper, now would it?

I know of a lot of JWS some young and some old that didn't have children because it was put forth upon them by the Society that having them they would potentially take time away

from doing the service work, therefore it would probably make better sense to wait for the new system of things to occur.

This grievous thought suggestion had made many JWS regretful later on in life to have followed that very sugestion.........way to go Crooklyn

The Brooklyn crooks are always out to acquire more observant slaves and children are practically useless as publishers.

Having children is not an act of selfishness, what it should be is an act of responsibility in both the creating and the attentive and important care that the child should receive from its parents.

I'm selfish, and I don't have children. Everything must be about ME!

According to some, everyone is selfish. So you see, if you have children or don't----you're selfish. You see the logic in that, right?
