Flipper it is so true. Those of us that were trapped in from youngsters had loaded language programmed into us, that these words pretty much only had a JW meaning to them. I battled a little bit with some of it when I left. The automatic association with a word or phrase would be JW. It's eased off now and only every now and again I have a flash back.

I think they believe that it's part of the "new language". It also makes them feel like that have a deeper understanding of the 'more important things' It ads spiritual bling to their faith.

The boys at the top of the pyramid need to have them programmed in order for them to keep taking in this drivil they call 'food at the proper time'

    "Worldly" is generally a complement...

While I was with my non-JW relatives and my mom, one of the relatives used the word "worldly" in a positive way... I pointed this out to my mom, and she was surprised at the use of the word.

Apostate is also a loaded word. My non-JW aunt introduced me as an "apostate" to another relative, and he (a Catholic Minister) didn't flinch. My mom thought he would and was surprised when he didn't. She could see the use of words... good thread

I posted this on another thread about the meaning of "worldly". I thought it fit here as well...

There's the JW definition of "worldly" and there's the normal definition of "worldly"...

Dictionary definition: of, relating to, or devoted to this world and its pursuits rather than to religion or spiritual affairs

Definition of 'worldly-wise' which is listed under 'worldly': possessing a practical and often shrewd understanding of human affairs

The second definition is closer to what I think of when someone not influenced by JWthink uses the term 'worldly'

Under JW definition, anyone who isn't a JW is "worldly". Even baptized JWs who act without regard to JW standards will be called "worldly acting"...basically an insult. "Worldly" is a buzzword with the JW crowd so as to set everyone not part of the JW system as bad or evil.

I think to be called 'worldly' is a compliment...once you're free of the JW influence.

Their use of the word pioneer can be strange to outsiders. Years ago when my sister moved into a new neighborhood she had a JW living behind her. I was having dinner at her house with one of her other new neighbors and he was telling me about a conversation he had with this woman. He said she kept referring to herself as a pioneer. He said he had no idea what the hell she was talking about. He wondered what century she though she was in.

Man Flip, I really hated the term bruddas and sistahs!! It took me 4ever to use that term! The first time I used it I felt so wierd. It makes them inclusive into their cult and everyone else exclusive. They do have a given name you know and it should be used, Tom, Dick, Sally, etc.... I never really thought much about the loaded language at first but since my departure I realize how foolish it really is. You oughtta see the looks on everyones faces when my JW wife uses this terminology, especially in front of my non-JW family and freinds. It's like listening to Stevie Nicks sometimes, WTF is she saying!! Even though I understand nobody else has a freakin' clue!!

I remember the first time I heard "Babylon the Great"....Wow!! I thought I musta been stupid or something because I had never heard of it. D@mn!! I'm glad I'm outta there!!

Flipper..Good thread..I`d like to point something out though...............It`s the WBT$ that purposely confuses the meanings of words..Jehocah`s Witness`s simply mimic what they are taught by the WBT$........Most JW`s think the WBT$ and Jehovah`s Witness`s are one and the same.....They are not.....The WBT$ allows that misconception to survive..It feeds the confusion the Jehovah`s Witness`s live in.....................

Thats quite true Flipper , its only after you've left for awhile that you come to realize all of the JW speak that they use and how its employed by the JWS.

Religions have designed words that are instituted to distinguish themselves from other people that are not of their faith with the intension to demean that individual

as nonspiritual. I didn't have to look very far in my hall for worldly people, the PO and the highest ranking elder both had lavishly appointed homes, wore the

most expensive suits, drove the most expensive cars ( Cadillacs and Mercedes ) they truly brought the meaning of wordily and materialistic right to my face.

Wearing a business suit and tie and punching a time card is about as worldly as you can get.

:This is false. 95 years has gone by since 1914 and if you do the math - it's a hell of a lot longer than 30 years ! So it has been a total controlling deceptive misuse of the word " generation ".

Nope. It wasn't just "generation" but "this generation" and Jesus said it. So instead of being merely 95 years, "this generation" as mentioned by Jesus is now pushing 2,000 years. That's fairly close to 35 years, I guess!
