When I hear persons trying to explain the differences between the Stock Market and the Lottery it reminds me of the scene in the movie, "Office Space", in which Ron Livingston explains to Jennifer Anniston how his software rounds off fractions of pennies on each transactions and placed them into his bank account.

    Anniston: "So, you're stealing?"

Livingston: "Know, you don't understand, it's less than a penny."

Anniston: "But, it's not your money?"

    Livingston: "No."

Anniston: "Then, how is that not stealing?"

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand the difference between the Stock Market and the Lottery. But, I also understand how explaining the difference to a third grader would be virtually impossible.

    It's all rather amusing.

Some people "gamble" on the stock market. And some try to use gambling as an "investment." Personally I think long term stock purchases are not a gamble, get-rich-quick-type thing but instead a (hopefully) good investment option.

My JW son-in-law, awhile back, came in the house while we were there visiting, with lottery tickets. He said: " We can now buy Lottery tickets". My response was, oh, another changed doctrine. No comments followed.

Actually it shows how little the rank and file know of the official WTS doctrine. They probably asked a jw friend who hadn't really a clue...it must be ok because they saw Brother PO buying a lottery ticket.

Your so right! They don't know all the WT doctrine, I swear they go to all these meetings and bible studies in a dazed state of mind, daydreaming about what they could be doing if they didn't have to be there.

My daughter (JW) wasn't even aware of the blood fragments.

There is so much I read on this forum about JW doctrine that I know they are unaware of. They just go along, following orders from headquarters. They don't study the JW history and doctrines to know of all the changes. They are drones reacting and not thinking.

I know they are unaware of the change in the organ transplant in the 1950's. I brought that up to them. I said the WT never use to allow organ transplants till the 50's, I said: " I hope they change the doctrine on blood before you or your kids need a transfusion".

They walk in the dark, keep giving their brains over to the WT to do their thinking for them. sheesh!!!

If you set up a board with company names about which you knew nothing and threw darts at it then it would be no different than the lottery. If however you do proper research and invest intelligently and prudently you can do very very well investing in stocks, I certainly did for several years.

No matter how 'prudently' or 'carefully' you invest in lottery tickets you are unlikely to see a return!
