so protective of their purses? I have two older sisters. I remember back when I was a little heathen, nothing would make my sisters go into a berserk rage quicker than me riflng through their purses. It wasn't that I cared to know what was in them--the fact that they were so secretive about them gave me a desire to thwart that secrecy. Nothing fany was in them--tissues, tic tacs, bubble gum, etc. To this day I still don't understand what was so all fired important about their little bags. . .

Then does that mean that most men wouldn't mind someone looking through their wallet uninvited?

I don't know about most men, but I couldn't care less.

Even if I didn't mind personally if someone went through my purse, I would never presume that gave me permission to go through another person's wallet or purse uninvited.

Nor would I. I haven't gone through anyone's purse uninvited since I was about 5 years old. That still doesn't answer why women are so secretive about them.

A purse here in England is a little wallet type thingy where a lady puts her money and that normally goes into a larger object called a handbag. Is a handbag called a purse over your ways? Also while on language differences. do Americans call sheaths - Durex?

I don't know what Durex is. I've heard sheath used in a few contexts. One is a sword scabbard. Another is a condom. Another is just a protective covering.

Hmmm what does sheaths have to do with purses/handbags?
What I remember is that it is important to respect other people's property and not to presume that my feelings are or should be theirs and that theirs are invalid because they aren't the same as mine.

OK. We call sheaths, condoms Durex because they're the most common brand name.
Blondie nothing really, just reminded to ask about a language difference, although I do know a joke about condoms and wallets.

Which still does not address why women are secretive about their purses. . .
