"Belief in the flood requires belief in hyper evolution:
Even granting a highly impractical number of representative pairs of various
"kinds" of animals, getting back up to the millions of current species requires
a level of evolution many thousands of times faster than required by the theory
of evolution, which Creationists reject as impossible."

You people must not read much in the way of actual creationist literature.

I remember, as a 16 yr old being very impressed that at one time all the continents were joined together and that the flood had caused the earth's crust to buckle up into huge mountains and deep ocean basins .

For believers in the bible story (not the society's version), I think Hugh Ross makes some good points

A good rule of Biblical interpretation is to analyze that which is less specific in the light of that which is more specific. As I mentioned in part seven of this series, the Bible is very specific about the extent of the defilement of man's sin and about God's response. The defilement is limited to the sinners, their progeny for several generations, birds and mammals which are part of their livelihood, their material possessions, and their agricultural land. Nowhere in the Bible do we see God's meting out judgment beyond those limits. Hence, we can expect that if mankind had never visited Antarctica, God would not have struck that territory. The extent of the Genesis flood would be limited to the extent of the defilement of man's sin. This interpretation is supported by the Genesis author's choice of the Hebrew words for creatures" destroyed by the flood, namely basar and nephesh. Part seven gives further details.

No, don't have much time for fiction. I imagine they keep trying to change the story when a scientific fact proves it wrong. Too bad that's an impossible task, and anyone without blinders knows it. If we're going to allow fictional stories into the "debate", then consider this:

I believe the flood happened when the FSM took a piss.

Here is one reason which I have not yet seen mentioned:

Why would an omnipotent, omniscient, and "loving" God need to use a primitive method like a flood to destroy the wicked along with the innocent?

I could never quite accept the idea that God would destroy babies and small children along with their parents just because "they would have grown up to be wicked people" as the Society claimed. Such reasoning is in my humble opinion repugnant as is the idea of global extermination of all life. If such a deity were to actually exist, it simply would not be worthy of worship or praise, but would in my mind be ranked along with all the mass murderers of human history.

Fortunately, The Flood never happened. It was a story told round the fire in times when people believed in myths and legends. There may have been countless versions of this popular story passed along as oral tradition. As mentioned by other posters, a number of these stories were written down. Perhaps the writers believed that their versions represented the best of the oral traditions. The version found in the Bible is actually two different stories that were woven together at some point.

The written history of the Chinese goes back to long before the purported date

of the Global Flood. As the Chinese officials said to the

Jesuits when told about Noah - It is incredible that an omnipotent God had drowned

everybody in China, but had been unable to inform them of this fact.

What about the rainbow. There were no rainbow's before the flood. So God changed the laws of light reflection?
