excerpt from CR 359, "The Temple of God" p.915

    C.T. Russell...in his own words.....

"I am very glad to have this particular opportunity of saying a word about some of the things in which we agree with our Masonic friends, because we are speaking in a building dedicated to Masonry, and we are also Masons.

I am a Free Mason. I am a free and accepted Mason, if I may carry the matter to it's full length, because that is what our Masonic brethern like to tell us, that they are free and accepted Masons. That is their style of putting it.

Now I am a free and accepted Mason. But not just after the style of our Masonic brethern."

    ........

"The Great Master Craftsman of our High Order of Free and

Accepted Masonry, the Lord Jesus Christ, laid the foundation of it all;"

    C.T. Russell

    Just?

does that mean "in addition to"?

what do you make of the implication?

    Just?
what do you make of that?

He was saying he (the bible students) were TRUE Masons.

That they took the symbols and goals of the Mason's and
lived up to them far better than the Mason's did.

It's like an "annointed" JW saying "I am a TRUE Born Again Christian"

Does that mean they are a member of a Born Again church?

It seems to me he was speaking for the whole movement when he said "we".

Russell believed that his calling was to gather together the remaining anointed members of Christ's "church" before New Jerusalem would be established and the world would end.

He used the building blocks metaphor frequently and often named Christ as the cornerstone that the builders rejected and the capstone of the pyramid.

Get a clue, eh? He was speaking SYMBOLICALLY. Surely your time as a JW exposed you to this concept.

    He was speaking SYMBOLICALLY

I certainly wonder if he carefully worded that so it would appear symbolic. It has the feel of trickery.

    quote:

As a Mason you will be led and hoodwinked into believing there is useful knowledge to be learned in Masonry. This is the "hook", and in each level you will be disappointed with these so-called Secrets, which are all frivolous, made up, and insignificant. This so-called "knowledge" will also be monetarily costly, and very time consuming -- away from your family. It is the lure of curiosity and nothing more that will be satisfied by Masonry.

This seems a lot like WT carrot dangling pattern also.

But not just after the style of our Masonic brethern

He was commiting a sophistry of the 33rd degree. Typical JW speak.

    Cheers
