Judge Rutherford and his wife were separated

It would not surprise me that Mrs. Rutherford left her husband due to his roving eye.

Malcolm's trip may have been an attempt at reconciliation on both parts. Many sons who grow up without a father will grasp at an attempt to get to know him. Rutherford on the other hand may have been quite willing to throw an all expense paid trip at his son in an effort to win him over to his side of the difficulties between his parents. But the trip may have simply validated Mrs. Rutherford's opinion of her husband which would have left a permanent rift between the father and son.

Remember too that divorce was not widely accepted especially in religious circles so separation would have "saved face".

If I recall there is an image (I have it at home but I won't be home for a few days) of Malcolm where he is noted as either Russell's ot Rutherford's secretary (I think it was secretary - anyone got the image?). So Malcolm was involved with the Bible Students.

I suspect that like many others who left the Bible Students when Rutherford illegaly took over the presidency Mrs. Rutherford and her son may have gone with them.

Just guesses on my part but I think they make sense out of Rutherford's nonsense

    IWillBeDubbedNoMore,

: We were ruled by one oddball after another

Knorr was especially odd in that he was obsessed with the topic of masturbation. He gave a talk to the New Boys at Bethel and many of them have related it. I'm sure Randy Watters heard it like the rest of them. After ranting and raving about the evils of masturbation, Knorr went so far as to tell the new Bethel boys how to urinate without touching "it." He didn't want them to touch "it" even while urinating because it might "stimulate" them somehow and cause them to masturbate. Yeah, I masturbate all the time while I'm taking a whiz! Doesn't everyone?

I am not making this up. This is well-documented and there are many living people who have heard that bit in his New Boys speech.

    Oddball is right!

Lady Lee....Malcolm claimed an exemption from the draft on 6/15/1917 as "Member of Bible Students Assn." But starting in 1924, he registered as a Republican in the California voter registration, and I take this to mean that he was no longer a Bible Student at that point (at least not affiliated with Rutherford's group). So it was probably between 1917 and 1924 when he stopped professing to be a Bible Student -- probably closer to 1924.

Malcom must have begun to realize that his father's, "millions now living will never die" spiel was just a bunch of hot air . By 1926 the jig was up for Rutherford on that line. I believe he even admitted he had made an ass of himself with his millions campaign. All JW's have inherited the Judge's kick me sign that is stuck to the ass of every JW.

Rutherford's son, Malcolm, as well as Rutherford's wife did NOT attend the meeting before the San Diego board to petition that the "Judge" be buried on the grounds of Beth Sarim (imagine what that would have done to the re-sell value of the property!)

Neither did they attend Rutherford's funeral, of which it has been said that only three people showed up.

Yet, in 1938, they all were on a cruise ship together!

    Very mysterious.

Terribly interesting topic, I am particularly interested in the "Knorr" remark. Where did Audrey state it? I am so intrigued.

I am so impressed with the research that some of you are able to do. I will start a new thread on this, perhaps it will catch the attention of someone who can point me in the right direction.

"There are no reports that Judge Rutherford was seen with his wife during the 20 years he was in control of The Watchtower. Not a single report of him visiting Monrovia!" Why????

    'cause ........ three's a crowd!!
