I only owe 300k. If I recall correctly, the deduction is only good up to a million dollar mortgage for married couples, which is not very extraordinary in many places, my vicinity included. Besides, a homestead deduction will necessarily favor the ownership class.

I am with Burns on this one.

Expect to hear more of these corporate sob stories and the little people working for free just to keep their jobs.

All the publicity will help to bring about Obama's mandatory volunteerism agenda.

    Wake up people.

If the boss would trim some fat off his high life, he could do the right thing and pay his employees.

These corporate whiners want to have their cake and eat it, too.

It is not fair to the little people. The boss should be ashamed of himself.

I believe the scriptures say that you are responsible for the servants within your gates.

This boss is taking a free ride.

But all in all...the real story here is to gain momentum for the change over to Ithaca hours and the mandatory volunteerism.

More stories like this on the way. You just watch.

I applaud business owners that develop a family enviroment with their employees. And the employees get what is facing them. A big fat layoff. As a business owner I've hit tight spots and the employees that really care chip in and help so that everyone wins. Beleive u me, when things improved I remembered who worked with me and they were definately rewarded

    Neither would I.

This is just the beginning of a manipulative campaign. It has to start small because those who work for a mere pittance (which is the majority) will be the ones subjected to this new type of slave labor. It's coming. A new economic transition. There is nothing "heartwarming" about coersion into slavery. This boss should be ashamed of himself for taking advantage of those who have less.

This is a political maneuver. You are all being manipulated in this direction and it's just starting.

My son has a business, although his crew has not ever worked for him for free, or even taken a pay cut, he has managed to keep them employed all winter building houses, when building new homes is down, and this is Arkansas for cripes sakes.

My son has taken the hit, not his crew. The very same house he built last year, this year pays to him $3,000.00 less. $20,000 less to the builder.

Not everyone that runs a small business is out to screw their employees, get slave labour, etc etc.

They do take into consideration, these men have homes and families and lives that have depended on him to provide.

The crew is loyal to my son and he is loyal to them, when he makes money they make money.

My son also knows that if he does not keep work going for these guys they will find jobs somewhere else.

Not everyone has this mentality you all are posting about.

I think of a time when I was working to get off welfare, there is a time period when you dip below the poverty level as they take away benefits as you earn.

One particular week I had a used furniture company come to my house and cherry pick the furniture he wanted, sold it, to keep food on the table and pay for daycare to keep my job for another week.

I could have given up and gone right back to what welfare was giving me. But I wanted to move on.

Maybe people will see that we are all in this together.

If the restuarant owner did not own the business there would not be employment for all those people, then what would they ALL do?

Slave labour is putting people who have committed non-violent drug crimes(namely marijuana) in privately own prisons(which huge corporations have invested in)

and paying the prisoners .30 an hour to do work for those same companies.

The big companies continue topay to lobby for not legalizing marijuana). Now there is some manipulation for ya.

    But that's another story.
