A few moments ago I happened to be reading some words of Kahlil Gibran and then I came to read this post.
Quote: The hidden well-spring of your soul must needs rise and run murmuring to the sea;
And the treasure of your infinite depths would be revealed to your eyes.
But let there be no scales to weigh your unknown treasure;
And seek not the depths of your knowledge with staff or sounding line.
For self is a sea boundless and measureless.
Say not, "I have found THE truth," but rather, "I have found A truth.".......
Comments: Truth bubbles up from deep down in the human heart as it states in the Book. Try not to measure it for it is immeasurable. No one or collective one has a monopoly on it or possesses THE truth.

'The Truth' is a nice phrase.....pity it is hardly appropriate! The Truth would not have to be updated...like it has! At what point in the WTS history could you say...'Right this is it...this is the Truth'. In 1995 for example, the generation teaching was ripped up, so before that time all the references to the 1914 generation were falsehood!

Well Joseph...Of course the Jehovahs arent known as "the Truth" in a public sense. "Truth" is an insider dub usage term. Its how the members refer to it between each other.Course every time they call it the "truth" they are reinforcing their opinions to each other.
If you were in the "Way international" and all the members whisper (in hushed tones) "The Way" I reckon the effect would be the same.
But its a great name. "The Truth". Says it all really. -

josephus:
You make a good point. I work in marketing/advertising and have often thought about this very thing. Of course, just because you say something is this or call it that, it doesn't necessarily make it true. As others have pointed out, it works well within the organization by constantly reinforcing in members minds their lofty opinion of themselves and their religion.
On the other hand, the Watchtower's marketing is a travesty and highly unsuccessful (if bringing in more bodies and saving more people from God Jehovah's violent wrath is the goal). There are many other religions that do a far better job at increasing their numbers through more effective marketing and advertising - i.e. the Mormon Church, the Methodist Church, Islam.
If they had to perform in the real world, they would be utter failures. Their numbers increase only enough to keep up with population growth and their market share (which is almost insignificant - 0.01% or so) hasn't increased at all in many years. But what else would one expect when they haven't adapted to changing sociological and demographic factors, haven't embraced new media or technology to any significant degree, and haven't changed or re-packaged their message (be one of us or die) in 80 years or so.
In addition they do almost nothing to combat the image that they're nothing more than a small strange group of religious nuts (that don't participate in some of the more harmless and fun activities normal people do - birthdays, Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc. - and allow members to die when medical help is available) that come knocking on your door every couple of years with weak opening lines like: "Have you been reading your Bible lately?" and cheesy apocalyptic literature that would appeal to almost no one in such a media savvy world.
Where they do enjoy success is in poor countries with poorly educated people, who are not as financially lucrative as the well educated, nor as sophisticated and able to spot pure BS as most any 12-year old kid from Europe, the U.S., Japan, or most any industrial society in the world.

I think one of the greatest adman was P.T. Barnum. (The circus promoter) Maybe the WTS picked up a few lessons from him.
