Okay so today was my day to take three very sweet and lovable older sisters out in early morning FS.

Our territory was to visit those in nursing homes who had showed interest or were in need of 'encouragement' (by request only of course)

It is here that an interesting conversation occurred between the sisters and a very old (nearly 100) oldtimer JW.

He was very discouraged but yet encouraged with the generations change but wanted to discuss covenants.

Specifically the Abrahamic coventant and how it was 2000 or so years from then to Christ and how we should be encouraged to ponder the fulfillment of Christ's return either in 2030-2033.......... He referenced Da Judges "Jehovah" book as confirmation that the slave had once touched on the subject......

None of the sisters objected to his musings nor remarked deeper once we left.

This is the first I have heard such talk in the JW world....... is anyone else hearing this kinda rationale?

    Opinions....

    Hi, yknot.

It is written in a Protestant's magazine published in Japan, saying "The cycle of God is for 2,000 years."

According to that theory, from Adam to Abraham is for about 2,000 years.
And from Abraham to Jesus Christ is for about 2,000 years.
And the period of Christianity is for about 2,000 years.

It is said that such a view is described in the document "Letter of Barnabas" (possibly written around the 1st or 2nd century).

But I refuse this kind of fundamentalism view.
I think that people in the 21st century should refuse an old view like this.

Very interesting to hear this view from this old-timer brother. Did not know this was touched on in one of Rutherfords books ("Jehovah"?). Can you please produce the quote from the book?

John Denton has written a lot about covenantology on his website www.tangotango.org.uk He states the Abrahamic Covenant ended with Jesus' death and the "Covenant for a Kingdom" is for the same length of time (2000 years or so) as the Abrahamic Covenant, ending about 2033. Here is an illustration of the essence of his views from his site:

This is rather interesting too because the WTS fairly recently discussed the 120 year period for the last days of Noah's system in the context of the "last days" of our system from 1914 (pointing to 2034), without explicitly saying there is a direct parallel. But if the WTS was to ever pick a date again for the end of the world, 2034 would be it.

Denton, however, goes on to say that the real end date is about 37.5 years AFTER 2033, in 2070! See below:

I'm not into this sort of stuff, but I can totally imagine the WTS wrestling with it right now. Surely they need something to pin their future hopes on and it would fit in with the 120 years for Noah/2034 'teaching'.

I think that the Watch Tower society's fault is fully proved in the following thread about 1975 (false prophecy).
    http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/bible/171166/1/PDF-documentation-regarding-1975-prediction-in-WT-publications

And the article of my website. (Please look at pictures especially.)

Temporarily, when they may say "in 2034", the evidence of it that they are "false prophets" only increases further.

I never forgive man and religion which make others' life spoil by doing such a "false prophecy" repeatedly.

It never has been important to the JWs that the bible says that even the SON doesnt know the day or the hour. Apparently the SON is too stupid to do numerology eh? Or maybe ask his DAD when the time is going to be. All this time all Jesus had to do was ask the Witnesses.

I've also heard this line of "reasoning". Here's the thing, people are always going to make up stuff and religions like the WTS really need to have a date to look forward to because they can't keep up the frantic "life saving" work without it. There have been several references to the whole Noah preaching for 120 years thing and I'll bet those references start getting stronger until about 2024 when they go ahead and actually name the date. What choice do they have other than to mainstream?

They're grasping at straws in an effort to make their lives feel less worthless.
