How do you fight a monster?

something much bigger than Jonestown may be the results

I really hope you're wrong about that. But recent statements in the WT about following the Governing Body's instructions without hesitation even when they appear to put you in danger make you wonder. You know the ones I'm talking about, where they compare the situation with that of the Israelites at the Red Sea.

Personally, I'm not sure that it's in the best interest of most JW's for the WT to be brought down all of a sudden, even if it was possible. People who have devoted their lives to a cult need to choose to leave when they are ready, not be forced to by events. That's my opinion anyway. I would hate to see large numbers of distraut followers committing suicide or something as a result.

That having been said, I would love nothing more than for the WT to either change to the point that they are no longer abusing people, or dwindle away to nonexistance. I, too, detest that organization for all the pain and damage they have caused to their followers.

It seems to me that the best way to fight them is to educate the public about cults and how they work. Then followers of all groups, including JWs can see their way out as they are ready to, and hopefully find support and healing in the process. I believe, as Steven Hassan does, that this is a public health issue and should be addressed as such by society. For this education to be effective, it has to receive widespread attention from the public. I'm not sure what can make that happen, except another tragedy maybe. :-(

Nah it's falling. It just seems like it's still a big deal but it's going down faster than you might think... Just be patient, give it another 10 years and get back to me! (20 at the most)

There are a lot of people who have a similar goal as you. For quite a few people, it's a phase that they go through, after leaving the cult. I know, i did. If i were batman, or superman, or god, there's lots of thing that i would do, OVERNIGHT. The fact that god hasn't done anything to curb the wt or to stop the general exploitation by the strong and the clever of the weak and the ignorant/stupid should tell you something.

Fortunately, there is enough room, and enough freedom generally available, at this time, so that we can persue our own happinesses, dispite the monsters.

But, if fighting the wt is your thing, then may the force be w you.

You feel the way you do, because you're still trapped in the monster. It's driving you crazy, so please just stop going to the meetings. If you just stop participating and tell no one why, your wife can't get a scriptural divorce, and the elders can't disfellowship you.

I believe that ultimately, JW's will morph. The older you get, the more you blend in, and the GB will want to keep what they have in way of membership numbers. This I believe will cause them to act pragmatically and lighten up over time.... after 2034..... But they will eventually reform.....

JW's are the nut group we know best, but there are many fringe dwellers out there, groups that are just as cultish. Who knows what movement will start up in the next 10 years? Scientology sort of snuck up on me.... There are probably many loony ones who are waiting their turn. To be sure, the borg will identify them as Satans seed, but what the hell.....

The best way to take down the Washtowel Slaveholdery is to expose the core essence of their doctrine as a scam. You will not be able to get those already in to see it, since they are programmed to worship the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger. What you can do is to make it more difficult for them to get people interested.

If people in the territory realize that the whole concept of Original Sin is nothing more than a scam, they are not going to see the "need" for salvation from it. All the sacrifices that are required will be seen as a complete waste of time and resources. And no one is going to want to study the Washtowels if they can find better resources about Jesus (the true Jesus, not Paul's Jesus). And, it will be almost impossible for them to find new recruits to drag in if they all believe that Original Sin is a farce.

What happens next is that some will become discouraged. The Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger already addressed that by telling people not to get discouraged, and that is a sign that the end is imminent (as it was during the last 20+ years I was in). But, without new members, the money is going to get pretty tight. Publishers do not have bottomless bank accounts (and, once their credit hits max, there is no way they are going to have anything to donate to the Worldwide Pedophile Defense Fund). They will also have less money for field circus, and when the hounders tell them to keep going as if they had the money, some will stop on that.

True, this will also mean people will get out of other religions. But it will make it more miserable for the Washtowel Slaveholdery to gain new members. It will also make life miserable for the next humanoid that wants to start another religious cult--if people do not believe in Original Sin, the cults that play up Original Sin are going to have a miserable time trying to get people to fall for the scam. That, plus the "In a Sense" type "fulfillments(??)" being exposed as a farce, will make things almost impossible for new cults to start up.

One strategy I've been thinking about lately is hitting them where they are growing the fastest. If you have a college in your area that attracts alot of hispanic and asian persons you could print up a simple flyer and distribute it. It could contain facts about what makes JWs a cult, a list of their failed prophecies, and facts about child molestation and association with the UN. This would probably be taken home by your target audience and then be distributed among more of their family members. It could also cause JWs who study with such persons to have their eyes opened as well. Along the same lines another target area could be hispanic and asian restaurants in your area. Such flyers could be sent anonymously and could have great impact as many of their families are so close-knit.

Along with the previous post, just mentioning what the WT's real stand on education is could be a deterrent for such college students and their families. They could ask their bible study conductor: do you have a college education? Why not? The answer could be very revealing for them as to the true nature of the JW cult.

The WTS only exists because people interact with it. When people just walk away and ignore it, it starts to die.

If everyone who works there walked away, the WTS would effectively cease to exist.

It's like the old Chinese finger trap. Stop fighting it and it will fall off.
