No, you can use CLEP, but when you pass a CLEP exam it gives you college credit. For instance, if you took a Calculus I CLEP exam and passed, your transcript would credit you with 5 credit hours. You still had to have the 120 hours to graduate though.

    This is from Cuny:

CUNY undergraduate programs lead to two types of degrees: the associate or the bachelor's (baccalaureate). Generally, an associate degree requires approximately 60 college credits and a bachelor's degree requires 120.

You're right, Gilead's figures are not adding up. He may have had scholarships of course.

And yes, I attended a traditional school. Here is where I got my undergraduate degree.

    John Doe,

Why doesn't hours earned in KLEP go towards your required hours say for a Bachelor's Degree...

My Grandson is going to College this year and I am wondering what the benefit of the KLEP testing is?..He is always top in his class and he is considered a Genius..he is receiving a full scholorship for his school . It would seem like taking the test would give you credits for what you know and shorten your required time for a degree..it doesn't work that way?

Snoozy..looking for any help she can get...

Yes Snoozy, I seriously shortened my BA time by CLEPping... it took my 1 year 3 months to get my BA... and now I'm in Grad School... it saved me a pretty penny (I took 25 CLEPs...)

They do go towards the degree. A successful CLEP gives you hours. However, you have to get x number of hours.

Thank you Awakened and John..I am going to question my Grandson on this..he is usually in the know about those things but just in case.

My Grandaughter is taking the ACT this Saturday..I hope she makes a good score..my other Grandaughter (a different one) barely missed the required number you need..she needs to bring her grades up desperately...and now!

The Grandaughter that is taking the SAT this weekend is the sister of the Grandson that is going to college year. Keeping my fingers crossed ..this one needs all the luck she can get...

    Snoozy..

    St Petersburgh college.

It's a community college here in Florida.

Your credits will transfer to other state colleges.

If you go to a private college, your credits wont transfer and you have to complete your schooling where you start it.

What I am saying is you probably have a community college where you live run by the state.

They probably offer their courses on line.

So check out the comunity college in the state you live in.

I suspect they will be less costly also.

    What are your subject interests?

    Your questions are so obvious.

cameo, I already have a very nice job, but I have never finished college. It would be a feeling of accomplishment if I have a college degree. I am just thinking out loud. I would like to be a polygraph examiner. Maybe I would like to be a massage therapist. I am not in a hurry to explore my options.

i am enrolled in an online degree program....

be CERTAIN any institution you choose has
been accredited by something other than
a single accrediting agency that is comprised
of a collective of like institutions!!

the program i am in is offered by a school
(which BTW, does have a brick and mortar site)
accredited by it's states Board of Education
and the US Department of Education
