You know I never thought about it from that perspective - a common ancestor with all its offspring evolving in various degrees. The Bible says that each reproduces according to its kind - apes breed apes, gorilla breed gorillas, humans breed humans, yet 97% of human DNA is also found in primates or is it the other way round?

Actually 100% of human DNA is found in primate DNA because we are primates. Go on youtube and search Ken Miller, there is a wonderful talk he gave regarding evolution. That is a great starting point to see where we differ from our primate brothers.

I belive in macro evolution, that species can change and adapt but still reproduce according to their kind.

I think you mean micro-evolution here. That's exactly how evolution works. Look up the Italian Wall Lizard, they recently were found to in a span of 30 years grown a cecal valve which is used to store plants to digest. Now their offspring will all have cecal valves, which the original species (which is still alive) cannot. This off-shoot of the Italian Wall Lizard will continue to adapt to it's surroundings and evolve until eventually it will not be able to mate with the original species. You can see this with finches in geographic regions where there's 10 types of finches but only certain ones can mate with each other. Because the first and the tenth are so far removed they can no longer interbreed. Animals always produce of their kind, evolution doesn't say any different. That's why people continually say "There are no transitional fossils" because they don't know how evolution works. There's not going to be one half lizard-half bird fossil, however there will be 10 fossils with the transition in place. There are thousands of transitional fossils in the fossil record, even in the case of humans from homo-erectus. As for macro evolution and species evolving to other species just type into google "observed evidence of speciation" and you'll see hundreds of counts of this not only happening but being fully documented.

I watched a NOVA program a while ago about the Hobbit people of the island of Flores - thousands of years OLDER than Adam yet scientists came to the conclusion that they were another off-shoot of humanity.

They were a different off shoot of humanity. Islands are fascinating places where animal life will evolve completely different than in other places. Look at Australia where Marsupials rule the roost. This homo-floresiensis (I believe I'm going from memory though) was a specific type of homo-sapien that evolved to grow smaller. Therefore it would use up less food and compete for less resources. Archeologists have also found minature elephants and horses that evolved on Islands. They were thousands of years older than Adam, but there's alot of things like that. Hamoukar (which I probably misspelled) is a city that is 6000 years old at the time of it's destruction. So if we were to believe the Adam story, apparently when he left the Garden of Eden with Eve, he built a city capable of holding thousands for himself, his wife and his two children.

It still doesn't explain why there are monkeys living today - surely they would have evolved by now into humans? Can anyone explain this?

Evolution is not progress, as popular misconception has it. There are monkeys today because they are well-suited to their ecological niche and are reproductively successful.

News just in, flat earthers admit that round earth theory may have some merit.

    On a more serious note...

Personally I would prefer it if these priests cottoned on to the hypocracy of the vast wealth of the catholic church when compared to the crushing poverty of a large proportion of their flock. Finally catching up with science after all this time is nothing compared to the misery caused by the damnation of contraception by the vatican.

This is big news from the Vatican. They now accept Charles Darwin's theory of evolution.

Not now, but for a long time. I have not read the article, but the Catholic Church has accepted the theory of biological evolution as compatible with the Catholic faith for many decades, at least as far back as Humani Generis in 1950. Times always seems (to me) to be misinterpreting the meaning of Vatican communications.

PS, here is a quote from JPII in 1996:

"In his encyclical Humani Generis (1950), my predecessor Pius XII has already affirmed that there is no conflict between evolution and the doctrine of the faith regarding man and his vocation, provided that we do not lose sight of certain fixed points....Today, more than a half-century after the appearance of that encyclical, some new findings lead us toward the recognition of evolution as more than a hypothesis. In fact it is remarkable that this theory has had progressively greater influence on the spirit of researchers, following a series of discoveries in different scholarly disciplines. The convergence in the results of these independent studies -- which was neither planned nor sought -- constitutes in itself a significant argument in favor of the theory."

Somehow, the Vatican's view of evolution is not the same as what I read on this board, and when I have read the talk-origins site:

In fact, what we mean by evolution is the world as created by God," said Ravasi.

Well they believe God used Evolution to create the world and life on Earth. No matter how much Science tries they don't have an explination of first cause, so if you want to insert God, Jehovah, Baal, Vishnu, Zeus, or the Flying Spaghetti Monster by all means.

Further just because SOME of a species evolve into something else, it does not follow that all will.

cameo, when i asked you before in your thread about the garden of eden or the annunaki performing experiments on people, you said you didnt believe all that. but here you are, essentially saying something awful close to that. just thought youd like to know.

Beta, I can't seem to find the reference. I have gone back through some old posts but just cannot find this instance you are referring to.

Have you read some of my posts like "Do we all have Nephilim blood" and 'Did Nephilim mate with animals" and some of the posts about "Time of

Jacob's Troubles" ( concerning Jacob and his negotiations with the angel for genetic experimentations), you will find that I have posted much on

this subject. I do believe we have been genetically manipulated. By whom? Fallen Angels-Aliens-ET's. Maybe I just did not add Annanuki to the list

of aliases because there is some part of the Annanuki story I disagree with.(?)

If you can find the thread and bring it up, I will see if I can clarify.
