WHY DID CONGREGATION NEED CLEANING UP?

Yes, I knew one very intelligent Elder around here, he is already deceased, he was very familiar with financial laws, etc... When one is accused of serious wrongdoing that involves financial stuff or very complicated matters, he is dispatched by the Brooklyn Bethel to anywhere in the USA.

If you're talking about who I think you're talking about, I didn't think he was deceased?!!

    You mean Maximus, right?

Trouble shooting was just par for the course. Congregations often need a cleansing. Rogue Elders and squabbles between Elders being the main cause of friction and a congregations morale spiraling down. If a congregation lacked growth and looked stagnant we'd say Jehovah's angel has removed it's blessing. The theory being that Jehovah wouldn't want new people to attach to a diing limb (this all looks like very stoopid reasoning now of course).

In the early 1980's, a friend of mine was sent to sort out Adelaide's Greek congregation but things were so bad he was instructed to split it up between the surrounding English speaking congregations. More commonly Circuit and District Servants/Overseers were sent to 'come down like a ton of Jehovah' on congregation Elders. As a pioneer it amused me to watch Elders leaving such a meeting looking shocked and with tail up between their legs, only to have the District Overseer give me a big smile and a knowing wink.

Had you done anything to encourage him? Like, worn tight pants or held on to a handshake a little too long...?
