I am halfway through the book and I am enjoying it. (So far) her experience growing up as a JW is very similar to mind - I think that is why I find this book so entertaining. I am curious to see how she leaves and what happens to her.

I feel the book catered more to her OCD ( obsessive compulsive disorder). Unless the OCD was brought on by being in the cult. Not sure, I think OCD has to do with a chemical imbalance of the brain.
I'm about a third through the book and I think it is very funny. I grew up a witness in the eighties and nineties and my family was similar to hers with all it's dysfunction. I totally get and love her humor. I'm loving the book!
I found it good as well. My way of thinking when I was a JW in some ways closely tracked hers. So it was helpful in processing some of the thoughts and feelings of those days in my own mind. The dissonance produced by WT's way of thinking can be devastating to anyone with any kind of perfectionistic tendencies or OCD. That may be what affected the author.

I really enjoyed this book. Since I was raised a JW and grew up in the 80s I could totally relate to it. Very funny read.
I have been reading books about cults, in general, for quite a while now.
I am currently immersing myself in Charlie Manson's Family.
I had my JW wife agree with me that his trial may have been a sham.
Don't get me wrong. I think Charlie was a very naughty boy, but it was very interesting watching my JW wife defend cultishness in another group. (again)
I don't think she likes me playing his music.
She mentioned, in an accusitory tone, that she had noticed that I had been playing the Beatles 'White Album' the other day. Cheeses Crust.... was she thinking that the Beatles were naughty boys because Charles Manson listened to them??????
Cheers

Has anyone read I Was a Teenage Jehovah's Witness? That was laugh out loud funny.
I totally related to the book, I'm Doomed... . My sister, never baptized but raised by the same JW mother, couldn't finish the book because it was sad and too close to home. It really helps one to get inside the bizarre (considered normal) thoughts of typical JW's.
All families are dysfunctional, so each individual can relate some way to Kyria's dysfunctional family.
I loved the book. It mirrored my life growing up in the eighties. At times I felt I could be the one writing it. I especially liked the glossary at the end. I'm sure people here could write great books too, but until then, I'll enjoy what's out there.
I enjoyed the book it was the 1st EX-jw one I read. I think she was honest and funny. Some of her story was mine to a key and her honesty helped me forgive myself.
