JWs are very good at whipping up speculation without ever putting a word in print. Maybe they learned something from 1975.
What are some of the things you remember hearing that are not "official doctrine" but lots of JWs believe it anyway?
I've heard a lot of speculation that armageddon would either happen on Nisan 14 or in October around the time they reckon the gentile times ended in 1914.
Name some of the topics you've frequently heard unsanctioned speculation about.
Satan took away the Book Study to test the loyalty of Jehovah's Witnesses! I have heard this from a few Witnesses now, and one elder even included the idea in a local needs talk, to the apparent consternation of the other elders.

As for the talk about Armageddon being on or around Nisan 14, I remember hearing similar rumors that failed before. Like back in the fall of 2006, when they were talking about their Waste of Paper Distribution Campaign setting off the Great Tribulation--and we know that was a complete flop. Like the REJECT Jesus Party of 2007, when they told people to take one last look at the table because they might not be another (and we saw 2008, and are looking at 2009). Like the end of May 2007, when they were talking "days, weeks" and a June 12, 2007 rumor spread (and flopped).
Every time they announce a date, whether they are specific or not, whether they write it down or not, it is a total failure. No matter what they use to scare me to going back with that Armageddon is nigh crap, it is not going to work. All I need do is look at the flop with the Fall of 2006 Waste of Paper Distribution Campaign setting off the Great Tribulation, now more than two years past. And the 1995 Generation Change just as the "generation" was going out of date, stalling for the pre-2000 Armageddon. Nothing happened then, nothing will happen now.
Well if is about doctrine, I heard a CO mention that maybe Satan made the snake in the garden eat the fruit first in front of Eve and then began to talk, which of course would have supported what it said after and also why Eve did not ask herself why is this snake talking?
Yeah, supposedly the end will come during the fall, most likely October, since this is when most prophetics event occur.
Also, the end was suppose to come in 2007 because in 2006 it was clearly mentioned in several talks at the pioneer assemblies and from what I hear the elders KM school as well that we will not have another year in this system. It really got everybody all excited.
The special campaign in 2006, I remember thinking that it was not all that special. However, other folks were thinking it was just the "sting" to false religion that would start the attack on JWs
A lot of witnesses believe that they are going to be able to choose the houses they want after the big A, some even started early wile they were out in field circus, bunch of vultures.
In the New System, Armageddon survivors and resurrected ones would all speak ancient Hebrew.
Supposedly because that's how Jehovah spoke to the chosen Israelites and there is some scripture about speaking in a "pure tongue."
What didn't figure into this speculation: Jehovah confused mankind with different languages at the Tower of Babel in the first place!

Yes I have known some Witnesses to talk like that on field service. However to their credit I remember there were other Witnesses who deplored talk about taking others' houses after Armageddon.

That was an official speculation for a while I do believe. It was in the literature. It was said that Adam spoke Hebrew and that it is the "pure language" of prophecy.
