Dallas has a gun for grocery gift card deal going on - hand over your gun and get a gift card. I see this as just the start...if the economy continues on a decline perhaps they will up the ante to make it look better. Other mayors and cities are looking at doing the same thing - if as people have said, their clergy are in sync with the State governments in this issue - look for more churces to start gently pressuring their flock to conform. There has been quite a bit of backlog with some types of ammo and the latest rumor is that shipments were being held up on purpose in advance of a total ban on specific types of ammunition. sammieswife.

Here's the news release from Dallas police today on their gun buy-back program at Reunion Arena. The gift certificates were for groceries.

Today during the Gun Buy Back Initiative at Reunion Arena, a total of 147 guns were turned in. This initiative began at 9:00 a.m. and continued until some time after noon. People with guns to turn in came in steadily. These guns included hand guns as well as rifles. Each person was given a $50 gift certificate for each gun turned in. We believe that today's effort was a success. We are sure that these 147 guns will never be used to hurt anyone. After the serial numbers on the guns are checked, they will be disposed of as required by law. -- Senior Corporal Janice M. Crowther

    Arkansas: Guns in Church Vote

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Published: February 26, 2009

A Senate panel rejected a bill that would have allowed concealed handguns in churches after opponents complained that allowing firearms defies the notion that religious buildings are sanctuaries. The Senate Judiciary Committee stalled the bill on a voice vote. The measure would have removed churches and other houses of worship from the list of places where concealed handguns are banned inArkansas. Only churches and bars are on that list.

I have some guns for hunting. Two of them cost me around $1,000 each. They're legal and registered. To think I'd trade them for a couple of bags of groceries is idiotic.

LOL. Trading guns for groceries? That would be the last thing in the world I would do right now. I'm really underarmed and need to correct that.

What gun could possible be worth 50 or less? I was thinking maybe you could build a gun out of pvc and 2X4's or something and trade that in but even that would cost more than $50 in parts!

I don't think this idea will ever catch on. At the moment it is easier to "point the gun" and get free groceries or a gift card.

Hmm, a gun for a $50 grocery card. I have a pellet gun I bought for a song a long time ago. It looks just like a real gun. I'm wondering if I can exchange that POS that's only useful for breaking plate glass and nothing else and get a 34 dollar return on my investment?

    :D
