I DO KNOW THAT RUTHERFORD IS SAID HAVE RUN A BROTHEL
If he did, I think it would have been infinitely more legitimate than the religion he ran.
Too bad he didn't stay in PA and continue selling clothing.
just because something is on youtube doesn't mean it has any validity
I could not listen to the video - no sound on this computer. So my question:
without some kind of documentation it is worthless info
Actually he said that it was Rutherford who was an alcoholic and who "ran a brothel".
This is based on some old rumors, who knows if they have any basis.
"The phenomenon of denying the evidence, and making no connections or faulty connections, is common to all people whose need to believe overcomes their rational judgment. Faced with the fact that some of their leaders have been suspected of hitting the bottle with a passion, confronted with the rumors that a small brothel was once maintained on Willow Street in Columbia Heights for the entertainment of Bethelites around mid-century, Witnesses' eyes glaze, and they will either refuse to countenance the charges or stoutly maintain that God's servants are 'imperfect vessels' " (Barbara Harrison, Visions of Glory, chapter 4).
It is true though that standards were, well, laxer during the Rutherford years.
I never heard this before. At this point nothing would shock me.
Coffee
I'd like to visit the brooklyn brothel.....and meet the brothelites....the sisters work so hard I hear.....he he
as Leolaia pointed out there is more evidence that Rutheford was the culprit and not Russell. And the evidence about Rutherford's activities and character at Bethel have been verifed in a number of instances
Mid century would have been Knorr's tenure surely?
Barbara Harrison could tell a good story, but I would not put too much faith in any facts she relates that cannot be substantiated elsewhere.
Plus it may be a matter of opinion what constitutes a brothel. Were Watchtower leaders likely to have operated an actual brothel? I doubt it somehow. Might they have turned a blind eye to a few prominent ones being less than chaste? Well it has been known.
