I was at a local laundry mat this past Sunday and I found an Awake from 1995 and a Watchtower from 1989. I was amazed at how old these magazines were. Back in my day, the magazines I left behind were rarely over a year old, let alone 20. I have noticed this a lot lately and am wondering where all of these old magazines are coming from. As I stated on a post a while back, I was in a laundry mat some time ago and I heard a man say "Why are you looking forward to 1975? How's that looking forward?". I realized that he was looking a a mag from the late 1960's. How many years of mags did/do you have piled up in the garage?

Every once in a while I see those magazines. I always just toss them in the trash. Even though I have not seen one in years, I do notice them it give me the creeps.

Donny, you should grab those mags ! They are classics!
Especially the one about "Why are you looking forward to 1975. There are people on this forum that would give an arm or leg for that magazine, me included. Will you take my left arm? I am right-handed.
While at the V.A. Hospital two years ago for my eye exam, I found two Awakes from pre-1995, the ones with the "God's promise that this generation will never pass away...." and I still have them. To me, they are worth their weight in Gold !
I hope you go back and find them. You may have an opportunity to use that when talking to j.w. loved ones, like I have. I also wondered why they would still have old mags to place like that, but I'm glad they do.

donny, that is so hilarious. Those magazines have probably been wilting in some little old lady's (pioneer sister) garage.

I keep a red sharpie in my car at all times. When I go to the doc or to the laundry I get it down so I can mark the magazines. I usually put a warning that jw's are a destructive and controlling cult. The oldest ones I have seen lately are from 2007. Apparently we have a lot of new dubs around here.
It feels good to post in here again. My old name never worked once JWD went down.
Hope you are all well.

Welcome to the forum Panzer.
I like your idea.
I never think to have a sharpie with me, then spank myself when I see a mag I could graffiti on.
I think that graffiti on a mag would be far more effective than dropping it in a bin.

This mag was probably left by an Apostate. What a wonderful thing to do with it.
Many ex-JWs dump their old magazines when they could leave them in laundromats with the really stupid culty stuff highlighted.
Cheers

One of the main arguments in favor of leaving the Watchtower or Awake in laundry mats is to their puerile content laundered. It's amazing what chlorine bleach can achieve that reason can't.

I put them in the trash and pour liquid on top.....if I can get away with it.
If not, I write stuff inside them. (This raises eyebrows if you're being watched.)
When I find wt books in the library, I stick notes in the pages.

I keep stickers in my purse for such occasions.
I have three different one:
A big one that says "Example of Cult Propganda"
and two smaller ones. One says, "Questions about Jehovah's Witnesses breaking up families? Call 1-800-WHY-1914 Toll Free Help Available"
and my favorite: "Protect Jehovah's Witnesses Children from Sexual Abuse...see: www.silentlambs.org"
The local laundry mat...the one next to my favorite Chinese Food, used to have mags. all the time. But since I started my sticker campaign, I haven't seen them there in the last 3 years, I don't know if the JW's quit leaving them, or the Laundry May owners started throwing them out.

There was a special needs part on this at a hall I attended, they said not to place mags more than a year or two old, that they may contain old understandings. Hell, anything before 95 could have a huge discrepancy in the current understanding of the generation.
There is some really wacky stuff in the old magazines, even the new ones I guess. Go back far enough and you get qwack medical advice in addition to failed prophecy. They are doing themselves a disservice by placing those, wish I could help with the effort but I threw all my WT stuff out.
