Wow, that sounds exactly like me, not quite 2 years ago...absolute trepidation...always good to see new ones here. First, there's the mental exit, then slowly the extrication from the web-like tentacles of the beast, but eventually you will find peace and freedom! Welcome!

    Welcome, Jabberwock!!!

I remember the first time I hit "enter" on the computer linking this forum. I was shaking.

    Glad you have joined us.

I'll bet it is going to be much harder to make friends in the congregations. The book study groups in homes were much more personal.

I would have to say that for over thirty years I loved the people in the various book study groups I was involved with. We had book study picnics, fun night, gatherings, etc.

I wonder, for those congregations that had hospitality-feeding the visiting speaker-how they do it now? We used to do it by book study group. I had groups at my house all the time. Also, how do they divide the hall cleaning duties, as that used to be by book studies?

Where will they meet if the "governmental authorities" close the Kingdom Halls? That was always supposed to be in the book study homes.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I am so surprised to see how many other people were also shaking during their first visit here.

Quandry, I agree it will be harder to make close friends within the congregation without a bookstudy. The bookstudy was the one meeting where conversation was less stilted and more personal. I always enjoyed the relaxed conversation over dessert in the comfortable setting of someone's private home. Do you think the social aspect of the bookstudy played a part in its demise?

As for your questions, many congregations have some kind of hospitality program for visiting speakers though not all of them involve assigning book study groups. I'm not sure exactly how the Kingdom Hall cleaning schedule will be done, but I assume that the field service groups will simply be assigned instead of bookstudy groups. I always thought: Couldn't the police just snatch the list of bookstudies off of the information board when they come to close down the Kingdom Hall? Perhaps someone realized this.
