    Welcome, need2no,

I always wondered the same thing. If God needs nothing, why have people kill animals?

The JWs said that the sacrifices pictured Christ, and that the blood of goats and bulls had some atoning value. It never made perfect sense to me. One reason is because Abel made sacrifices long before the Jewish nation arose, and who told him to do that?

Of course, as a good JW I could not really delve into any questions that I had, lest I be thought apostate.

Isn't it nice to be able to have questions and ask them?

    Welcome need2no!

I believe that making a sacrifice to Him showed that the person acknowledged their sinful state and wanted to show God that they wanted to show how sorry they were and try to gain His favor.

    "Sacrifices were a REQUIREMENT"

It becomes a requirement when religion is monopolized by the priesthood. What I was trying to say cameo is that the basic instinct to sacrifice something to a deity gets corrupted and co-opted by those priests not necessarily invented by them.

that the basic instinct to sacrifice something to a deity

    Basic instinct?

I disagree. This is a learned behavior. And imposed against one's basic instinct of compassion for living things.

God never needed sacrifice. He only wanted them because He wanted to waste man's resources and time, in order to prevent us from progressing. That is the only reason He has so many stupid rules in the Bible, too.
