or traits cause someone to be susceptible to high control fring religions? Perhaps

    1. distrust of society and government/religion
    2. being a social misfit
    3. having some deep seated jealousy of successful people for whatever reason that causes a person to relish the idea of being smarter and knowing that the successful are completely wrong and will die
    4. overly emotional
    5. insecurity

What do you think? Or, do character traits have anything to do with religious susceptibility?

JD, probably everything you mentioned compounded by some catastrophic event or heavy feelings of failure. I also think it attracts narcissistic people too. I think it attracts predators, just look how many use the congregation to get away with spousal and child abuse.

Any one can be susceptable to manipulation by a cult. Especially if they have recently been through a painful situation such as the death of a loved one, break up of a romantic relationship, financial difficulties, loneliness, concern about the future, etc. We were supposed to be looking for those who were "sighing and crying" remember?
