This is so sad. When my mom decided to shun me, I had siblings to keep an eye on her, and I knew she was in contact with my oldest son. I told her as she was doing it that no matter what she was still my mom, and I was still her daughter and if she ever needed anything, she was to ask me or move in my house if necessary. But there is no way she could drop off the face of the earth without me knowing pretty darn soon-more than 6 years is inexcusable IMO.
With 20 half siblings, being abandoned by her daughters father, poor immigrant, etc, she was ripe to be plucked by the JWs, wasn't she?
