Am I the only one who actually finds the NWT (and subsequent WT) use of the word "YOU" to be slightly threatening and bullying?

I realize they use it to textually denote the plural in the original greek but it I just saw it in the title of a recent thread and decided that the actual reason was one of underlying control.

    Anyone feel the same way?

    All the best,

Interesting to see how an English reader perceives that. I always found it strange, but in French we don't have that problem as the 2nd person singular and plural are different in pronouns, verb flexion and adjectives... (it's also amazing to us how long you can speak of someone without telling if it's "he" or "she" :) ).

    Yes.

Always found the YOU rather threatening in the New World Translation.

YOU people, so un-deserving of undeserved kindness. You lowlifes, who can never measure up, YOU.

We were criminals in capital letters before we even started.

without getting up to search for a bible,
isnt the capitalization of YOU meant to be
indicative of the plural to distinguish it
    from the singular you? YOU(heathens)
    vs. you (loser)?

    Hi,

Yes, the NWT is alone in doing that. However, it comes across as shouting to me! Maybe that is just netiquette I have picked up in the last 10 years or maybe it is something the writers intended i.e. to be a little abusive and bullish.

    All the best,

    Stephen
