I have often wondered whether I would really need to get baptised again if I started practicing a different faith. I was baptised before the change of the JW vows. This means the second question wasn't to the effect "do understand that your baptism indentifies you as one of Jehovah's Witnesses' but more along the lines that you will in future do God's will as directed by his holy spirit. So although I no longer practice as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I still regard my baptism as valid.

Passwordprotected, Why do any of us have to be baptized into a certain religion? If you and your wife are both Christian, why can't you baptize each other? It's a commitment to God, why does it have to be done by a chruch? Just courious

congratulations to both you and Gail, Mark. I don't think it's really a subject to second guess anyone's choices on, but I note the above views with interest.

Looking back to when I dedicated my life to serve god it is clear to me now that the organisation WERE interposing in the place of God with the question they asked me to answer, however I certainly did not even mention the org in my prayer prior to my baptism and I did want to serve God, NOT the organisation post baptism. The organisation was only the structure for me as a dub to do this, rightly or wrongly.

I feel that it's only natural to examine and question everything one may have done as a JW in the light of the deception we have experienced and thus one's baptism is the logical place to start. I do feel that many of the R and F are genuine in their desire to serve and please god and show that by baptism.

What I would say is that it's the many beliefs of the JW organisation that are flawed or misguided not the people themselves, they are merely fodder, told what to believe. But the sincere ones I'm sure ,like myself got baptised for God not the WTS. It's only now we all realise the subtle initiation into the control of the org.

It all comes down to the fact that to some re-baptism is a need for them to fulfill and to others one they have already done in sincerity as a jw although part of a flawed set up. It's a person's heart that God is interested in and he knows who are his own.

And it can't be overlooked that to a person set free from wts mind control they might just have to read the Bible and use their conscience to decide for themselves whether it's for them.

@ hobo ken - I hear what you're saying. I know that my baptism wasn't in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and was only done as an outward display of what others expected of me. It's different this time around.

Baptism doesn't need to be done by a church. It happens that it's being done in a church. Baptism is done to outwardly display that one has repented from their former life and is moving on in a new life in Christ. Baptism part of the parting words of Christ and consistently throughout the Acts of the Apostles whenever a person came to faith in Christ they were almost always immediately baptised. For some this resulted in an immediate outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus presented himself - as a perfect man - for baptism. This set the model. He presented himself before His Heavenly Father in an act of obedient submission and was blessed with the Holy Spirit.

Christian baptism is full immersion. The JWs get this part right.

The location of baptism is completely irrelevant. I know some Christian who were baptised in rivers. Others in municipal swimming pools. Some churches have baptistries.

I should point out, we're not getting baptised into another religion. I feel strongly about this; we're being baptised in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. This isn't a religious thing, it's a matter of faith. As part of our faith we get to be baptised.
