Moggy, I don't have an Emphatic Diaglott...do you or anyone else know how the more controversial verses like John 1:1, Revelation 19:1, etc. were translated in the ED?

I have in front of me both my old copies of the king james printed by wts and the and the asv also printed by

wts. I was around 10-12 years old at the time. They are still in good shape, which means that I did not

use them much. I still have the original copies of the green segmented versions of the nwt, plus the

first bound together green version. The thing was huge. I prefer to use the king james even now. I have a list

of the older words that I sometimes have to look up.

Very nice Logic!...I wish I had kept some of the "artifacts" from my youth as a JW...would be very interesting to look back at them.

In my youth I remember us using both the KJV and the ASV and a good dub also had the Douay Version to prove how wrong it was.

The 1958 book, "Your Will Be Done On Earth," used the ASV translation.

They had to come up with their own "translation" because John 1:1 and John 8:58 kicked their butts!

Hi, 10YA: Here are the readings:

Jo 1:1 a The text itself: "In the beginning was the Logos and the Logos was with God, and the Logos was God".

The Interlinear: "In a beginning was the Word and the Word was with the God and a god was the Word". [My mum's old copy has a neatly underlined notation saying "compare with original" in the margins.]

Jo 8:58: "Indeed I assure you, Before Abraham was born, I am he"

Acts 20:28: "Take heed to yourselves therefore and to All the FLOCK, among whom the HOLY SPIRIT made you Overseers, to feed the CHURCH of GOD which he acquired by the blood of his own" [The capitals are in the original and refer to a glossary at the back of the book where these words are defined.]

Rev 19:1 "After these things, I heard a loud voice as of a great crowd in HEAVEN saying: "Hallelujah! the SALVATION and the GLORY and the POWER to our God"

If you check the pubs before 1950 when the first segment of the NWT appeared, the Authorized Version (AV) American Standard Version was the more frequently quoted.

Blondie, it is interesting that the WTS mentions how remarkable and commendable the American Standard Version is using the name Jehovah over 6000 times in the Hebrew Scriptures ...no mention made of the name being used in the Christian Greek Scriptures...hmmm.
