My three grandkids went for one year to the JW school in Long Beach, Calif. It has since closed. I believe they received a substandard education, no homework, very short shool days, like 3 hrs. total. Also, very odd. Lots of gossip and cliques with the girls...very "untheocratic" behavior. Kids did not look any different from the "worldly" kids in a regular school. No dress code. Way too many days off. I could go on and on.

Okay, so, Coffee-Black, diss for us. How was it????
We had a licensed teacher in our KH and he wanted to start a JW school for our cong. but he called Brooklyn and they told him NO. The only way that the kids in public schools get a witness is by the JWs who go there, as they are impossible to reach in the door-to-door work. School is the territory for JW children, so NO JW SCHOOLS!
Of course, now years later, my neice is homeschooled because the kids make fun of her for being a Dub. Times have changed.

BTW, did you know there is a really sad and pathetic JW homeschool curriculum available?

I remember the Palm School in Daytona Beach. I dodged the bullet on that one. My mother took me out of school in the 8th grade and that was a huge mistake. Not only was she not qualified to teach me but she was too lazy. So, I passed the entire grade with flying colors, doing all the work on my own. I thankfully went back to Ormond Beach Jr High in the 9th grade. I was lost. My work for the home school was totally different than what the public schools were doing. I would get beatings for having less than satisfactory grades when I was trying to catch up. Still better than being at home!
Then, the Palm School opens. My mother tried to convince me to attend and I talked her out of it. I am so glad. Never heard a positive thing about the school.

My stepson attended the New World Education Center in Phoenix in the late 1980's. By the time we got custody of him ( seventh grade ) his education was a shambles. He was being "groomed" to go to Bethel, and his mother and stepfather planned to pull him out of school in 9th grade and finish his education with corespondence courses ( this was before the internet and on-line schools).
When we unexpectedly got custody ( due to his mother's disfellowshipping ) he saw absolutely no need for an education. I had many go-rounds with him, trying at that late date to instill in him a love of reading and learning. He finally "got it" and to this day is always taking classes at universities in his area.
The New World Education Center was a complete sham. The sisters that taught had so little grasp of their subject matter that our son truly had to "unlearn" things in order to learn them properly. For example, he didn't even know the names of the states vs large cities in the US. He tested so poorly the local school district put him in a basic skills level curriculum, which further impeded his ability to catch up. But eventually with time, he did but it took him until his 10th grade year for the disastrous effects of his "schooling" to be undone.
