Why I Am Here.

Sometimes I post fluff. Sometimes I post stuff from the Bible that confronts the teachings of JW's. Most of the time I like to deal with the ludicrous sociological issues that arise for people who are / were JW's.

As the son of a well known PO in the UK, I saw and heard things that almost bordered on pure farce. Even now, here in Weston super Mare, I am still well known as the son of that famous PO and am privy to a constant flow of information such as the saga of the sausages and the woes of my alcoholic dub elder pal.

I post this info as I receive it, because I regard this site as an on-line community, not just as a simple bulletin board. Sometimes I can get into a heated interchange with someone, but mainly I avoid it when I can, because there is no-one here who can upset me to that degree.

IMO, people post here for a variety of reasons. I know that Alan F has been coming in for some flak recently. However, I undestand that his time is limited, so that he hasn't the time to bother with the light-hearted stuff. I finish work at 2pm, so I have 3 hours to myself most days in which I can do pretty well what I want before the family comes home.

I read most of what is written here, with one exception. I can't stand people who take themselves too seriously and people who are easily offended. However the rest of you, IMHO, I think are absolutely great!

Now Eman, it sounds like you're much like an Aussie chauvinist! How come you don't spend those 3 hours before the missus comes home, cleaning and doing the housework? And while you're at it, throw together a great evening meal for the family.

Instead of that, you waste your time loafing with those no-good fluffy types on that pesky old infernal net. You should be ashamed.

Now, have you got your pools in? How's Pompey gonna go this weekend?

    Cheers,
    Ozzie

Well, Ozzie, you could well be in for a shock. Indeed my cooking is almost legendary and I am a champion of the art of Doing a Delia. Only UK-ers will know what that means.

2-4 is my time, 4.15 I whip round with the hoover, 4.30 I do the Delia.

All proposals of marriage via Uncle Bruce for sanctioning, please. Applicants as concubines will be tested personally.

Streuth! And you post mega-times. Incredible! I tips me lid to ya, gaffer!

Don't know about the concubine thingy, though. Have you got the time to...you know...or the energy!

    Cheers,
    Ozzie

I had a good answer planned when I saw the title:

"Well, someone has to be in Weston super Mare ..."

It's good that people are here for different things - it would be boring if there was just debate or just bible investigation or just support etc... but anyone of them would be missed.

Like Eman said, it is a community and not just a simple bulletin board although we may think some of the posters are simple simetimes, he he he.

    Englishman,

Admit it, the reason why you are here is because you are toasted.

    Felicitations E-man,

This is a great outlet for me, esp after leaving the JWs this year. Leaving left a few voids to be filled in my life: socially, philosophically, ... you know.

Well, this board has met those needs in a particular way that is unique. Other people don't understand what xjws have been through. Other people aren't interested in WT scandals and theology as we're interested. It makes for a camaraderie akin to veterans of a certain war.

Another way I find it so enjoyable is that I work all week and get people-weary. Being an introvert, I have only so much interest in being around people. This board lets me keep to myself, yet also socialize.

It's also a non-committal community. No one's hurt if I don't show up. I'm free to drop in any time. I can discuss only the things that interest me. I can always find stimulating topics.

There's also a real friendship with a lot of these folks in addition to the propinquity with them.

So, that's why I keep coming back. It is most definitely a very busy coffee shop where you can socialize and intellectualize with your friends.

THANKS AND KUDOS TO SIMON FOR A FIRST-RATE COFFEE HOUSE!

    Merry Christmas!

    P. S. You mentioned Alan F coming under fire. Well, I said it on another thread, but will iterate it:

I am in awe of Alan's writings. Even when he's prickly, I get a chuckle. I don't think his posts are ever offensive.

Some of the others can be offensive, but some of them are just too emotional, insulting, and don't think well.

Alan is none of those. All of his writings bring something positive to my day.

And NO, I'm not trying to start an Alan Fan Club. But you gotta give credit where credit is due!

    For what it's worth,
    Pat

    Hi Englishman,

I tend to like the fluff post best. Have you ever heard of fluff hurting anyone?

When you get to the indepth postings, feelings always end up getting hurt.
