The very first thing for me was an article in 1978 in the Atlanta newspaper about the Jim Jones cult & suicides. It was a long article telling all about the cult. I read that article several times.
So many of the things they wrote about the Jim Jones cult was true of the WTBTS also.
Ditto, Kahlua. I watched a documentary on Jim Jones and saw some similarities that got me thinking.
I really don't know. I just got overworked for years and decided to quit. I was divorced by my JW wife of 16 years, she didn't give me a reason. I married a worldly woman and haven't gone back. Been married for 35 years. I still sort of believed it was the true religion for years but didn't want to be controlled by it and when I read C of C I was free from any guilt.

(2) You can't really go by what happens at the a$$emblies to foretell what the "new" system is going to be like.
As it turns out, one or both of those statements has to be a lie. And yet I was expected to believe both of them.
There were a couple of small things that i noticed. For instance, once they were questioned. questions from readers, i believe, where some scientific type finding that they had published was brought into question and found to be faulty. The wt defence was that they were just quoting some woldly source. That kind of defence, an appeal to ignorance coming from the faithful/wise and discrete org directed by gods spirit caught my attention. I never went further, though, until yrs later, when i read ray's coc. That book destroyed the god directing the gb doctrine for me.

Thinking back to being a teenager studying to join I would say the doctrine of the
literal 144,000 being comprised of figurative 12 x figurative tribes x figurative Israel = literal 144,000.
Then before deciding to get baptised it was the Genesis creation and Flood stories. Still got baptised though as I wanted to marry.

Studied with the family from age 9, bapitized at 13 and succumbed to severe pressures before reaching age 18. I felt it an obligation to God to study the Watchtower ready for the next meeting, prepare a short speech for the Theocratic Ministry School, attend the family Bible study and the Congregation Bible study, and of course The KH meetings, and achieve a target of 10 hours/ month on the door-to-door work. Presented with the "Children" book in 1941 which I was encouraged to read and study and was convinced that my school studies and extra school activities were frowned upon, and thinking of girls was a no-go! I failed to achieve any school diplomas, and was continually pressurized to seek the Pioneer service. Armageddon was so close I had to keep alert. I just wonder if young JW's today feel similar pressures. It took a few years of study to convince myself that I had left a man-made organization!

Here are the quotes that define wt policy regarding transplants. The first is the one my parents based their no transplant decision on.
When there is a diseased or defective organ, the usual way health is restored is by taking in nutrients. The body uses the food eaten to repair or heal the organ, gradually replacing the cells. When men of science conclude that this normal process will no longer work and they suggest removing the organ and replacing it directly with an organ from another human, this is simply a shortcut. Those who submit to such operations are thus living off the flesh of another human. That is cannibalistic. However, in allowing man to eat animal flesh Jehovah God did not grant permission for humans to try to perpetuate their lives by cannibalistically taking into their bodies human flesh, whether chewed or in the form of whole organs or body parts taken from others." (The Watchtower, Nov. 15, 1967, p. 702)

Regarding the transplantation of human tissue or bone from one human to another, this is a matter for conscientious decision by each one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Some Christians might feel that taking into their bodies any tissue or body part from another human is cannibalistic. . . . Other sincere Christians today may feel that the Bible does not definitely rule out medical transplants of human organs. . . . It may be argued, too, that organ transplants are different from cannibalism since the "donor" is not killed to supply food." (The Watchtower, March 15, 1980, p. 31)
My dad’s story is on the following thread. I confronted some jw websites who used my fathers story and lied about him as well as me.
As regards my children’s experiences, there are obviously no articles to reference. It was their experiences with jws… Since they are both out of the organization, and want no part of it… I guess you could say their lives are the proof.
As to the Untited Nations issue, Rand Cam, false prophecies, pedophile problems and all the rest, you can find all of it here on jwd…in discussions going back years.

Fo me it was the realization that the most important name to JW's, Jehovah, was not found in the New Testament. I could not accept that God allowed Satan to completely remove the divine name from every known existing copy of the NT and they admitted that some of them are within withing 90 years of the originals.
Then he had to wait until 1950 before it would be rightfully "restored" to the Bible by the means of Freddie Franz. When I asked an elder why did Satan not remove it from the OT, he replied that "removing it about 240 times from the Greek scriptures is much easier than removing the 7000 instances from the Hebrew scriptures." Talk about grasping at straws!
