At least you have an excuse. Many like myself actually chose this religion!
That's why I am interested in responses.

The Watchtower would claim that its Jehovah's Spirit. Although they have backtracked a little on this in recent years, by saying the seperation of the Sheep and Goats is yet future.
Which makes you wonder how the little flock of annointed sheep got chosen.!! !

…All and all, for better and for worse, the organization is right where Jehovah said it would be at this point

Wow! "...right where Jehovah said it (WTBTS) would be...". God, Jehovah's so amazing, like some celestial CEO after screwing up something not that difficult and says, "Hey, I meant to do that!"

There’s a very good reason why Jehovah exploits You Know as His mouthpiece while the WTBTS laughs all the way to bank.

Radar, I'd like to talk to you some time.

I became a dub in 1973, the year I graduated from college. Interestinly what YouKnow said applied to me at the time. I was a newly converted Christian, I had no real knowledge of the Bible, and I wanted to learn. Then these people came along and told me they had all the answers. Being that I knew nothing what they presented to me seemed to be very deep. Also the acceptance into a group seemed at the time to be a demonstration of Holy Spirit.

I don't care what any of them say now, they were expecting the end in 1975. And world events seemed to be giving them support. War in the mideast with the subsequent energy crisis, Agnew was forced to resign then Nixon; and several other governments came apart, (If I recall right)France, Britian, and Germany among others.

Took me fifteen years to figure out that I really needed to look into who, exactly these people were, and another year to get myself out.

Mother started studying when I was 3 and she was baptised shortly there after. No more christmas or halloween for me after that I can actually remember those few christmases that I had, and I remember being a princess for halloween. boohoo lol! I did get the best husband in the world out of the whole deal though. Wouldn't have met him if I hadn't been a J-Dubya.

Unlike betweenworlds, I HATED the holidays (still do, even after being 'out' over a decade)and hated war and was so thrilled when I found a religion that went against both. That's really all I needed...but I guess the paradise earth (a literal one, anyway) and resurrection of loved ones blah blah blah sounded good and was icing on the cake.

So I started out being a doctinal JW, but I saw NO evidence of holy spirit ANYWHERE in the org. My life is a different story. So I half agree with You Know. What I thought was Holy Spirit in the congregations, you can find in a whole bunch of other places. It's what happens when people come together with similar beliefs and a mission, and you see it described by many groups of many different faiths all over the world, all down through history.

We shall see what is wheat and what is weed, that's how I feel.

kenny2, Cowboy, grace_gough, FideiDefensor, NancyJeanne, aChristian, JW4fr, humble1, orbison, outnfree & Wickid ---what the H**L are all these people doing in chat on Sunday night. They should be preparing for field service tomorrow doggone it!!! (love and hugs to them all)

Mum was called on when I was five, I grew up within it, blew hot then cold a few times, stopped completely when I was about twenty.
But, this sounds really stupid - I felt out of place in the "World" did not make friends- institutionalised by the Org - went back to give some purpose to life. Did not believe it at first but after a while of study and meetings , it was great I really felt I had The Truth . we knew the secret of the universe ,in fact we knew the answer to everything!
    I know better now !
