metatron
I got attracted to the name in part because of reading stories by Issac Bachevis Singer. When I was compelled to reveal my private 'spiritual' name to a psychic group, the reaction was gasps and surprize.
Isn't it interesting that we see a common theme in Prometheus and the book of Enoch - and, in our century, Star Trek? External advanced beings are not supposed to help us. Our evolution is our own problem. If reports from some abductees are true, we have a great many UFO visitations because our turbulent world is very different from the rest of the universe and that's why they keep coming here to observe. Kind of like why humans value a vacation to Australia instead of Bayonne, New Jersey. Wow, this place is nothing like home.......

Here is a good discussion of the possibilities of the etymology of Metatron:
http://www.marquette.edu/maqom/metatronname.html
The most attractive theory is that the source is Latin metator "leader, guide, messenger, measurer", loaned into Greek as mitator to refer to an officer of the Roman army who is a forerunner, where it may have been applied to the Logos by Philo of Alexandria (if praemetitor in Armenian MSS is a form of it), where it also may have been compared to Greek metron "to measure", and then loaned from Greek into Hebrew as myttr which with the common angelic suffix -rwn produced myttrwn. That 2 Enoch refers to Enoch in ch. 43 as the "measurer of the Lord" and uses the term prometaya (= praemetitor?) to describe him suggests a possible link. OTOH the true etymology of prometaya may well be Greek prométheia "forethought". This may suggest a distant connection between views of Enoch as an angelic power and some of the Platonist gnostic cosmologies; it would be interesting to see if Philo uses this term of the Logos as well. And metatron...You just mentioned "Prometheus", what was Prometheus but prométheia. lol
