Thank you so much for your replies, all!

Mickey, that is so cool that your counselor is reading it, too! Thanks for the camaraderie!

DrWtsn, I just ordered "Releasing the Bonds", too... and have just started reading it, myself. I ordered that one when I got the extra copy of "Combatting" for my counselor. Agreed, truly excellent so far.

TruthSets, thank you so much. I hope she reads it, too. I hope it can give her more understanding into this thing.

    Thank you all.

Bump... to see if anyone has any other suggestions that might get the point across...

I went to a conselling group. It was a course on "Introduction to Couselling" but it also helped people thru their own issues too. Some of it was more from a theoritical point of view rather than being personal but I found it worked really well for me. I didn't have to go in to too much detail and yet gained a lot and changed a whole bunch during the 10 weeks it ran.

Listening to other people's stories was very helpful and I could relate to them a suprising amount. Being a dub is very like being in a relationship with a control freak, telling you what you should and shouldn't be doing/reading/saying/thinking and who you should and shouldn't spend time with. After you come out of that relationship, your self esteem needs rebuilding and you need to begin to trust yourself again.

Just my tuppence worth! But I do think its a shame that there aren't more counsellors "in the know" about leaving high-control groups/cults.

Dear Baba, my former psychiatrist labeled me as psychotic because I thought the witnesses were out to get me. I tried explaining to him how I live in a large apartment complex filled with them and how they treat excommunicated people. He just didn't get it because it was too out of his range of experience to understand.

As far as suggestions are concerned I think that giving them something shorter to read like the watchtower that calls us children of Satan might be best since most therapist/doctors don't have the time to read an unsolicited book.

That is so very true Amha. I have discussed this with others very near and dear to me who are out... it is an abusive relationship.

Good point Villa (and your therapist thinking you were psychotic really gives one pause!) Did you have a specific Watchtower in mind?
