A lady that comes to our Ex-JW meetup is a DF'ed JW and still has some contact with her JW parents. Anyway, her father went to the week-long elders school in Patterson, NY and they dropped him and a bunch of other elders off at Laguardia Airport. The NY JW's were done with them.
This guy is 80 years old. He made his own travel arrangements. So something about the flights got screwed up and he wasn't put on his Friday evening flight. He expected to be on a flight Saturday morning. So he sat at the airport overnight. Next day, delays delays delays. It was the airline more than anything else because other flights were going out. I think he was flying "standby." That would make sense in this situation. They told him they could definitely get him out on an early Sunday flight.
So his wife knew he was there. The two of them didn't call anyone else. Nobody from Bethel or Patterson had asked him to call them if there were any problems. He just sat. Finally, his wife called our ex-JW friend, their daughter, and told her of his predicament. "Well, did you get him a room?" "No, he'll be okay."
The daughter booked a room and had him paged, as he had no cell phone. "Dad, go downstairs and catch the hotel shuttle for XXXX Suites, and they can bring you back in the morning." He went to the hotel and finally caught his flight on Sunday.

That is so sad that this elderly Elder faced such a situation at his age of 80! Iam happy it was resolved. However, I would not put blame on the WTBS for causing this mess. In this situation, I think the organisation is given a 'pass' However, I criticise it for not providinng necessary escort to this elderly man.

I'm just telling the story about how a DF'ed family member who is semi-shunned (they won't eat with her and have limited contact) helped her dad out and the mindset of the JW's- be they elderly elders or Bethel Brothers or family of elderly elders. No judgment was contained in my post.

There's no excuse for that. Sure there are plenty of 80 year olds that can manage, but still, someone should have waited with him. It's called a buddy system.
What would a JW say? Well, all he had to do was stand in the middle of the airport and hold an Awake! or WatchTower magazine. Jehovah would have sent a witness to his rescue. Stranded witnesses have been known to identify themselves in this manner...blah blah blah

Still refraining from judgment in this case. What do you suppose JW's would say if they were told this story about an 80-year old priest in similar circumstances?
"Well, the Catholic Church doesn't really have love." That comes to mind.

OTWO - I understand the point of your post.
The sad thing is... even after all that the DF'ed daughter did to help him - getting him the motel room and the transport to/from the airport... they'll still shun her.
*mumbles* Stupid religion.

Jehoobah will provide, so there is no need to make sure the brothers got on their flights OK.

I dont want to get all spiritual here, though didnt Jesus say "how you treated one of my brothers is how you treated me?" Someone should ring NY bethel and tell them their expected plans/hopes have been put on "standby", so take a seat as there is going to be some turbulence ahead........

If the old Guy is on Stand By,he gets a seat when one is available..Not when he wants one.......If he did`nt tell anyone that..How would anyone know?...............It`s a bad situation, but it`s no ones fault but his own..........................OUTLAW

See? Jehovah provides, moving even a worthless apostate so that the local Dubs wouldn't have to be bothered.
It's all according to plan.
