Did a search here and couldn't find this posted yet.

In today's Parade Magazine, Walter Scott's Personality Parade column:

    Q. How does tennis star Serena Williams justify wearing such sexy clothes when she's a Jehovah's Witness?-Ron Ryden, Riverview, Fla.
    A. The winner of 10 Grand Slam singles titles dresses conservatively when attending Kingdom Hall services, but there's no religious dress code preventing her from wearing revealing clothes on or off the court.

I'm guessing it was Serena or her publicist that provided this response.

I'm doubting recent wts publications or their official website confirm this position.

LOLOL! I went to the official JW website ( dubya duby dubya Watctower etc.) and typed in "Sexy clothing" under search - the search engine didn't even recognize the phrase!! I tried "revealing clothing" and got a few hits...

I found this comment under the article "Cleanliness - What Does it Really Mean?" and what a typical "buzz-technique" - notice (on the subject of buzz words, patterns of speech and mind control) how they use a question as the title of the article instead of firmly stating their stand on the issue...

"Wearing skimpy, revealing clothes to Christian meetings or social gatherings draws unnecessary attention to the human body and shows a lapse of chasteness. Besides bringing unclean worldly thinking into the Christian association, dressing that way has the potential to create unclean thoughts in others."

Hmmm!! Maybe the incongruity between celebrities' actions, appearances and lifestyles and the stated JW strictures for good little Witnesses is the reason the WTBTS won't openly acknowledge the membership of certain JW celebrities.... Like Michael Jackson, for example???

Totally OT to this thread, but revealing; the featured article on the JW website is titled: "Why Not Just End It All" with the sub-text; "Many young people commit suicide each year, and millions attempt it. See how one can gain victory over painful emotions..."

Ironic that there are frequent discussions on this board which, among other things, wonder just how many JWs do attempt or successfully commit suicide each year... Zid

Interesting, I now see another thread started before this one. When I did a search for Serena, nothing came up. Weird. I'll post this on the other thread.

I never found the story on the magazine's website. The entire text is posted in the OP. The magazine included a very non-sexy pic of Serena in a regular tank top.

*** w02 2/1 p. 6 Cleanliness—What Does It Really Mean? ***Lovers of God know that prostitution, homosexuality, premarital sex, and pornography are violations of Jehovah’s standard of moral cleanness. However, expressions of these practices are commonplace in the entertainment and fashion world. Christians must therefore be on guard against such trends. Wearing skimpy, revealing clothes to Christian meetings or social gatherings draws unnecessary attention to the human body and shows a lapse of chasteness. Besides bringing unclean worldly thinking into the Christian association, dressing that way has the potential to create unclean thoughts in others. This is an area where Christians need to work hard at displaying "wisdom from above."—James 3:17.

    *** g86 4/22 p. 11 How Can I Say No to Premarital Sex? ***

AMATTEROFCOMMUNICATION: "By presumptuousness one only causes a struggle, but with those consulting together there is wisdom." (Proverbs 13:10) Often a couple misunderstand what each expects in terms of expressions of affection. Frequently, a man may feel that the woman expects him to initiate kissing and petting, when in reality she may not. Therefore, let the other person know how you feel about the matter by "consulting together." But regardless of how the other may feel, wisely set limits on expressions of affection. At the same time, don’t give out mixed signals. Wearing tight, revealing, sexy clothes can give your partner the wrong message.

Once, when I was working as a truck driver, I was in a truck stop on a beautiful Saturday morning. As I was sitting there doing paper work in the driver's seat with the window down, two young (well endowed) ladies approached to talk to me. I was quite confused as both of their necklines were very low. I don't think they realized it, but from my perch I had a COMPLETE view down their shirts. I didn't hear a thing they said, but I did breifly notice the Washtowels in their hands. I said nothing to discourage them, but they left when they realized a wasn't hearing a thing they said.
