Comparisons between todays Witnesses and those 40 years ago

Loyalty, devotion, hardcore, willing to lose jobs to attend Friday of the District Convention. These were the witnesses who came into the truth or were born into it some 30-60 years ago. They could reason from the scriptures and hold their own at the doors.

Today, I see a large mass of witnesses who have been in some 10-15 years who really don't know much about their own faith, could not explain 1914, are unwilling to lose jobs and sleep over attending meetings and assemblies and live double lives. They would rather leave a tract at a not-at-home than engage in real doctrinal arguments.

Their children and the JW youth in general are internet and media savvy, willing to question rather than accept what they are told.

Are you sure the WT can keep going forever when it's older, loyal members slowly die out?

    Hello, truthseeker:

One of those loyal oldtimers - many years a good and wise elder - recently declared that today's WT version of transfigured TRUTH is not what he signed up for.

    Here's one:

40 or 50 years ago, cars didn't have AC or seat belts! They went in field service for hours and hours, sweating and being crammed in the back seat like sardines....and NEVER complaining about it! They brought thermos bottles of water and kept on keepin' on till Brother In-charge said it was time to stop!

40 years ago, 1975 loomed VERY LARGE in the minds of the JW's.

    Here's another one:

Major conventions lasted 8 days!!....yes, 8 days out of town and if you couldn't afford a hotel, you stayed in a stranger's home! The witnesses in the city where the convention was held went door to door for months in advance of the convention, getting householder's to agree to put a family up for a very small charge!

Then you sat in a big stadium ALL DAY listening to talk after talk after talk and ate there at the convention cafeteria site standing up at make shift wooden tables.

And, again, you never complained! You were doing it for Jehovah.
