Cracks me up when people think Y2K wasn't a real issue. It most certainly was. It's just that we had enough time to resolve most of the problems before the date changed to 1/1/2000.

Can't really compare that to an epidemic like this. The truth is no one really knows how bad it will get. The gov't/CDC/whatever are criticized by issuing warnings and protective measures. Sure, it may end up being "nothing"...but what if it does develop into a real epidemic? And what if the gov't *didn't* warn people?

But I agree: the media blows everything out of proportion.

I think, instead of dying from swine flu, you will have your life ruined by quarantine from regular flu, a cold, or even a runny nose from exercising in cold weather. They will treat it as if you have symptoms of swine flu, quarantine you to prevent it from spreading, and hold you under quarantine until you no longer have any symptoms of possible swine flu. Notably, healthy people exhibit some of these symptoms under certain conditions (runny nose is intended to provide humidity to the air you breathe in cold weather, and not a sign of sickness).

I wonder how many people are going to lose jobs and homes simply because they catch regular flu, didn't get enough sleep, get a simple cold, have allergies, or just because the police feel like it. And they will get put on expensive medications that do nothing but give you more "symptoms" that possibly indicate swine flu. The drug companies get their money, the government takes your freedom and your money, more people are forced into Osama Obama's socialist programs, and they are happy.
