Did You "Care" About Disfellowshipped People?

As a Witness, I was trained not to feel bad for "those that left us". If they didn't want to stay, that was THEIR decision. If they decided to stop the "sweet fellowship" of the brotherhood, we needed to avoid them so that they could miss us, see the error of their way and "come back to Jehovah".

When you were a Jehovah's Witness, did you avoid disfellowshipped ones and mentally stop caring about them?

Some, yes. Others, no. Two very close friends got DF within a few months of each other (though for unrelated incidents). I would often ask after them thru their "in" family or people from the cong whose territory they were in.

So no, I didn't forget them.

I had an aunt in the early 60s who was df'd. We avoided her like the plague until her reinstatement.

I cared about them but I didn't toe the company line. But I remember the 60s to the 80s when things were a little more caring in my area. Due to my family dynamics, I had a lot of association with non-jws and did not think of them as birdfood either.

My problem is that knowing just how messed up I have been during my life it is unlikely that I can look down on anyone! In fact, I care about and remain in AWE of everyone making it "one more day"!

I found it hard to care about disfellowshipped dubs because, for the most part, I never saw them again.

Now I'm the one who has disappeared from my KH (faded, not DFed). To the best of my knowledge not one dub from my KH has ever asked about me or how I'm doing in the 30 years I've been gone.

I think when I was a little girl, I was trained to avoid them and think of them as bad. But when I saw them, I was mesmerized and would just stare at them. It's funny thinking back to that. Now when I run into Jdub's, they stare at me! I find it funny. Makes you wanna look at them and yell "BOO!"

    Basically, df'd ones were demonized.
